  1. ...is that the little buggers are more than a touch peeved at that Bushie fellow being rather too
near their sacred land for comfort. In fact one idiot sought to buttonhole me for a fifteen minute
lecture on the stupidity of Bush in particular, and Yankees in general, before I was able to advise
him that I was a staunch Scottish socialist. That calmed him down and we began to [censored] off the
English for their appalling rugby technique. 'Twas fun.

As an aside, my flight back to Edinburgh hit problems and diverted to London, so rather than [censored]
around for a shuttle I decided to hire a car and drive back north - something I haven't done in
about ten years. Settling into my comfortable Rover 75 automatic (I'd never drive and auto shift car
before) I thought I'd make the drive in about nine hours. Fourteen hair-pulling, sweating, swearing,
gesticulating, scary hours later, the lights of Edinburgh hove into view. How the fcuk do people
drive on those roads on a daily basis? The majority of drivers seem hell-bent in staying in the fast
lane whatever speed they're doing, articulated lorries simply push you out of their way, the thirty
mile width of the Birmingham conurbation is one big 5 mph traffic jam, there are roadworks every 20
miles (remember, I was on the MAIN arterial route within the UK), and the general standard of
driving make the French look like advanced motorists. Tempus bloody well fugits alright, and not
always for the better. What a [censored] roads system we've developed. Note to potential tourists; skip
the UK, it's simply not worth the effort and hassle, go straight to Europe.

Surf, with regards to Wobbot, surely by now you've recognised that the fellow in incapable of
recognising when he's has a jolly sound thrashing? That's part of his charm, he's like a
jack-in-the-box, every time you peek at him ***boing*** up he springs. You made a valiant attempt,
but I'm afraid we all have to walk away shaking our heads. He is the corona virus of Usenet -
unstoppable, omnipotent, and destined to inherit the earth. We shall all fall victim to his manic
ways in the end. <however, he is a *incredibly* stupid [censored] for thinking we are one. if we were, why
am i still impatiently waiting for my personal invite to the surf lakeside retreat?>

    Roger.

    ....

you haven't seen california yet. 🙂 5mph would be akin to speeding.

It's a good job that the Scots can hold their heads up high over the quality of their football.

    I believe that's "Tempus daftgits".

A correspondent of mine drives from Leeds to Hull every day, thus enjoying M1 and M62. Apparently,
near death experiences are one-a-month during the winter...

<big snip> Yes, and it must have been very hard for the French to be zapped by the All Blacks this
    morning. 40 13, I believe. J

Don't blame the road system. Blame all the impatient twits who insist on driving around. The
country's too small and over populated for that kind of behaviour.

That being said, I drove from Aylesbury to Grandtully a couple of years ago during the week. It
wasn't too bad... it took about 9 hrs in a Renault Clio (titchy little girly car), and that included
rain and spray between the southern lowlands and Perth that was so bad that visibility was at best
20m. It's days like that that reminded my about how crazy it is this side if the Atlantic that
nobody has rear fog lights... except a small number of obnoxious twits with imported cars who don't
know how to use them and have them on dazzling people when the visibility isn't reduced.

I just had the pleasure of sampling some of Ontario's best traffic. The lanes were crowded with
impatient [censored] and morons all going exactly the wrong speed. My favourite type is the bobber &
weaver. "Look at me! I'm twenty five feet ahead! Yippee! Oh' wait this lane is no fun, I need to be
over there. Oh [censored], this lane is too slow ....". I'm also very fond of drivers with a brake pedal
fetish. "Look at my brake lights, just look at 'em. Want to see 'em again? Mmmm, I wish there was
someone in front of me so I had a real good reason to push this pedal to the floor."

    I think he enjoys it.

Typo, should've been impotent? You are correct however, he is like a fart in a Volkswagen.

    retreat?>

    Three reasons:
    1. If/when I invite you I'll have to invite everyone.
    2. I don't have enough 'Dr. Sholl's Sneaker Treater' stockpiled yet.
    3. You might never leave and I'd have to sell the place.
