  1. I just got a new Zefal HPX ASV frame pump and the adverts and packaging
    seem to be bogus.
Claims to automatically fit 2 types of valves, Schrader & Presta. But
presta doesn't work, it looks more like it should fit the woods/dunlap
type rarely seen in the USA. Anybody else try one of these pumps out?

overall it's a nice looking upgraded hpx, full frame fit. Nice rubber
grips. But just doesn't like presta valves.

Back to the tried & true HPX.

The ASX is a poor replacement for the prior model. I like the craton
grip and the molded frame fit, but the ASX features is awful.

Remove the cap, turn the plastic insert around, and re-install the cap.
It will then work as well as the old pump on presta valves.

    Cheers,

    Tom

Where did you guys buy yours? I'm looking for an online store that
    preferrably takes PayPal.

    Greg -

Mine was from Nashbar. It's been laying on the workbench for a while
now in favor of the older model. Whilst I was contemplating what it was
that made it such a piece of [censored] I discovered that you could make it
serviceable by flipping the plastic insert over, but still prefer the
    old pump.

I am not aware of any decent on-line sellers that take Paypal, so can't
    help you there.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Same here. I got the new hpv model and found that two parts, a spring and
little metal rod, had to be removed from the head and the little plastic
piece reversed in order to work on presta. Still, the pump rattles too much
against my bike's top tube. So, on the shelf it sits and I got a rebuild
kit for my old Blackburn FP-1 and put that back in service.

Just out of curiosity, why does it have to be paypal? Almost every
online store will process a credit or debit card.

Because I've been selling vinyl LPs on Ebay and have a bit of slush fund
built up in my Paypal account. I've bought a bunch of camera equipment
with the proceeds and still have $65 in the account. Paying for things
with this account means I don't have to run things by the CFO of the
family, although a pump wouldn't be a problem.
