  1. 600 miles for 2004! That's 12 miles a week, 4 workouts of 5,000 yards. It should be very achievable.

What about yours, my swimming friends?

I intend to cut back from my already moderate yardage and concentrate more on sharpening my strokes
and getting more speed. The temperature has recently been lowered in the pool, which leads me to
shorten my rests and that has dulled the quality of my efforts. I'd rather shorten the whole swim
than get into mind-wandering laps. I enjoy the mental exercise of extracting mechanical strengths
and efficiencies from my stroke in the exact same way I did when I wrestled as a young girl. Too bad
that wasn't acceptable; I was a seriously talented little wrestler. I see no difference between that
kind of use of limbs and stroking in the water.

  5. I haven't competed seriously since 1992 and am planning to swim USMS Nats at Indy in April, Canadian
Masters Nats (LC in Edmonton) in May, then three USMS OW Championship events at 5K, 2-miles and 10K
in June and July. The competitive goals have motivated me to train with more dedication and
enjoyment. And now I'm off to the health club for a med-ball workout! Swim More in Oh-Four, Terry

Terry, what events will you be swimming? We may end up head to head after all if you do any sprint
    events. :-)

I did the same thing, last meet around 1992, then concentrated on triathlon, but because I couldn't
run 2002, I went down to Y nationals in Florida. For the most part, I wasn't unhappy with my
results, but it's not quite the same fun and doesn't have the same quality of camaraderie as
    triathlon.
