  1. I turned 33 today (hooray for me). Not that it's that big of
an accomplishment, but it's tradition to recognize the
passage of time like this. Fortunately for me, there's a
materialistic component to celebration. My honey is not only
taking me out for sushi and drinks tonight with friends, but
she's getting me a new wheelset for the Epic. My old one
(517's and Specialized hub on the front, XT hub on the back)
is still functional, but this is their second bike and the
rear took a beating on my hardtail and they are getting old.
The replacement will be the Magura Pro Disc XC wheelset,
which is Mavic 317s on Magura Pro Disc hubs. Of course my
rim brakes won't work with these so they come with a set of
Magura Marta SL disc brakes. I was thinking of getting Avid
Mechanicals, but the LBS guys (who I trust) sold us on the
Maguras hydraulics (which are currently available to shop
employees like my honey at a very good price). It's not in
yet, but in the next couple of weeks I'll be sporting a
trick new set of wheels on the trusty S-Works. These would
be pretty light weight for a big guy, but it looks like (and
I hope this will be the case) they will be good for a rider
of my stature. I figure I'll move my XTR V's over to the SS,
which currently has LX V's. How exciting!

Nice presents. Magura sure seems to be expanding their
product line as of late. Didn't they also release some
shocks and forks a little while ago? (Or was that just a
case of rebadging someone elses stuff?)

Cheers! I just had my 45th a couple of weeks ago, but at
some point I guess I stopped feeling the desire to make it
    very public. :-)

Nice indeed. They do have a bunch of new suspension stuff.
But I don't really know anything about it.

I went for the wheels and brakes on the reccomendation of
some friends (wrenches at the LBS) who ride them as well as
some guys I know who ride on the RLX pro team who are Magura
sponsored and use those brakes. Another friend is a team
mechanic for that RLX team, and he seems to think they are
great too (although he said there's a couple of tricks to
dial them in right - but he'll show them to me).

Well belated happy birthday to you. I don't really care
about the publicity. It's the loot I'm excited about!

Matt (bet I'll get some quality booze from my buddies too,
    which is nice)

The forks started with a dutch brand WP by Rond. They made
Forks for motorcross, nice stuff. Magura bought it.
According to the german mags Magura's are the most stiff(?).
