New utensils arrived!

I took my old warped plastic cups and dented and bent spoons I've had
for the last 20 years and threw 'em in the trash.

Now I can measure spices from inside the spice jars, not tip out the
contents because the spoon wouldn't fit. I also did something I've never
done before--I separated the spoons from the ring. Felt like I was
breaking the law.

And with the potato ricer, now I can try making spaetzle.

The utensils look so nice I want to put them on display. Have to make a
micro "coat rack" with little hooks to hang the cups and spoons.

I almost have to slap myself when I think "what took me so long?!!!"

I have a couple sets of spoons without their ring, and one metal set on
its ring; I've got to say, I like them on the ring best because
otherwise, they bounce all over the place inside the dishwasher ;-)

Congratulations! I have some even skinnier spoons, and they
ARE useful. You do have to take care to even them off in such
a way that you don't end up with significant amounts of spices
all over the counter though.

Easy big guy, you are for sure having more fun than the law allows.
The measuring device I found at a yard sale a real long time ago isn't
a set of spoons at all. It is round, about the size of an ashtray with
the appropriate size indentations for the proper measure(works for
me). I gave the lady $10 for it just because it was odd. You separated
the ring from the spoons? My God man, don't you realize what kind of
power you've unleashed. The mattress tag police are on their way to
your door even as we speak🙂

I bought the same set of measuring spoons a few years ago. You're gonna
love 'em. They're CuisiPro aren't they? I like all the CuisiPro utensils
I've bought so far. I also have a similar set of measuring cups that I
bought from Williams-Sonoma -- 2 sets actually! One set of the standard
measurement sizes, and one set of the odd measurements, which comes in
handy.

I still have the old dented aluminum measuring cups and spoons that belonged
to my Grandma. I kept them for sentimental reasons. And, I've bought other
sets of stainless steel measuring cups and spoons because I liked them for
various reasons... now I have multiple sets of both, and I do use them all!

Liberating, isn't it? I have an old cheese crock on the counter with
four or five sets of measuring spoons, all de-ringed, bought over a span
of 30 years. Makes it easy to find a size when the others are in the
dishwasher.

It isn't everyone who gets such a pick-me-up from measuring spoons, cups.
:-) However, I can relate, having done the same thing about 3 weeks ago.
Mine are from Paderno. I bought 2 sets of spoons.. 1 set being the thin
ones. In addition to the regular cups, I bought the 1.5, 2, and 3 cup
measures as well. I still feel very much the "proud mama".

I'd end up using maybe two out of the five spoons and then have to wash
3 clean spoons. That never made any sense.

I found a deringed tablespoon measure in the bottom of the utensil draw
(like a lost sock??) and designated it a coffee measure but I don't
drink coffee and tossed it out. Short lived career, that coffee measure
spoon. 😉

You bought a replica of my left palm for $10... I don't think I've ever
used a measuring spoon for measuring... the pour n' pinch method worked
for my both my grandmothers, my mother, and it works for me. However I
do have two sets of measuring spoons, heavy aluminum, freebies from The
Dime Savings Bank, from too many years ago to think about... always
thought they're on a ring so they can entertain babies, for rattling
and for teething, I see no other practical use. Okay, fishing lures.

afternoon of elation, imho. I'll get over it. 😉

Your 1.5, 2 and 3 cup measures... are they liquid measures (pyrex)? I've
got a 2-cup pyrex liquid measure. If they're dry measures, aren't they a
little inconvenient for scooping?

They are dry measures. Perhaps some things would be difficult to scoop.
Most of my ingredients are in big enough containers. However, I like being
able to get out the ingredients in my cups and put the larger containers
away.

They are dry measures. Perhaps some things would be difficult to scoop.
Most of my ingredients are in big enough containers. However, I like being
able to get out the ingredients in my cups and put the larger containers
away.

You're not supposed to scoop with the measuring cups, actually.
That can cause "packing" of the ingredients, which can lead to more than you
actually want or need.

The recommended technique for measuring dry ingredients, particularly flour
and sugar, is to spoon it into the measuring cup lightly until slightly
overflowing, then level it off, again, lightly, by running the back of a
knife across the top. The exception to the "not packing" rule is brown
sugar, which usually calls for it to be "packed" into the cup.

Actually, the correct method to be sure you get the right amount is by
weight. If I am making something that isn't very forgiving, or that I am
fussy about I weigh the ingredients. So scooping isn't an issue. Anything
else can pretty much be scooped, as I prepare until it looks or feels
"right".
