  1. I've been doing WW Online for just over two weeks now.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions from experience they can offer?

I've seen some reference to a workout plan. Where can I find info about that?

Also, what does NYNY and HHH mean?

Is didian.comasdww the current FAQ for this group?

    Thanks,

    - J :-)

My best advice is as follows:

Follow the plan. It works for most but not all.

Don't get discouraged or overly excited about losses and gains. It took a long time to put the
weight on, it will take a while to get it off.

Track. Use the tools to track you daily points usage.

    Water. It works.

Activity is key for long term weight loss. If you can't start right away, that's ok. Get your eating
under control first then add the activity later. That's how I did it.

Have fun with it. It doesn't need to be boring or a chore. There are a million ways to make the plan
fit your tastes and lifstyle. The folks here are great fror helping wtih that.

    332.4/185/155 2002 combined loss 139 2003 combined loss 33.2 Total combined 172.2 lbs

  3. I went/go to meetings so don't know much about the online program but a number of folks here do the
online program and have had great success.

Definitely journaling helps you determine how much and what to eat. Record everything you eat.
Since I've always drank water and eaten veggies, I was not as compulsive about reporting those zero
    point foods.

I was active before and continued so I am sure that helped my weighloss.

NYNY (new you/new year, I think) and HHH (not sure) are/were a weighloss challenge (friendly
competition amongst ourselves) and exercise challenge. NYNY goes on a bit longer but HHH has ended
and a new one recently started. Folks find setting mini-goals makes getting to the end easier, so
the weightloss challenge helps set a goal a few weeks or months down the road.

And that is another thing - setting mini-goals helps many. WW sets a 10% goal but for some, that may
still be long range. So folks go for 5 pounds or 2% or just a loss. You'll get an idea as you
    watch/read others.

Kristin usually posts a series of links and info.

Some folks post signatures that show things like starting/current/goal weight but it is voluntary.
NSV is anything positive that is not scale related - Non-scale Victory. Like clothing getting
bigger, wedding rings falling off (but not getting lost)

Welcome and best. As Chris said, the program works if you follow it.

  9. Hi and welcome, Jay! Sorry I've been slacking in my welcoming duties again, maybe it's time to pass
the baton over to some other willing and able person? 😉 Let me know if anyone is interested...

Here's the welcome notice... I still haven't quite got it updated to what it should be...

Welcome to this great newsgroup where you'll receive lots of support, advice, and encouragement.
Once a week on Sundays, I post a list of links that newcomers to asdww might find useful. You may
want to look for that later in the week, or do a backwards search for last Sunday's post.

In the meantime, here's our FAQ: didian.comasdww our welcome notice:
    geocities.comindex.html

Frequently seen acronyms on this NG: NSV = Non-Scale Victory WOE = Way of Eating WOL = Way of Life
(Living) OP = on Points or On Program DH = Dear or Darling Husband
DS/DD/DGD/etc = Dear or Darling Son, Daughter, Granddaughter, etc WI = Weigh-in

HHH - Happy Healthy Holidays Exercise Challenge: angelfire.comhhh.htm

NYNY - New Year, New You Weight Loss Challenge: angelfire.comnyny.htm

THTP - Take Heart, Take Part Exercise Challenge: angelfire.comthtp.htm

    Other acronyms: wwlissa.com100+acronyms.htm

    Here's a short synopsis by Joyce -

How many points you can eat is only based on your current weight, as you lose weight those points
allowed will decrease (logic is that your body will need less to operate). At 183 pounds and based
on the new US flexpoints system, you will have a set point target of 24. In addition to this you are
allowed 35 flexpoints to be used throughout the week ... as well as any activity points you earn on
a particular day. When your weight drops to 175, your target drops to 22 points ... weight reaches
150, target once again drop to 20 points. 3 servings of dairy of recommended per day, 5 servings of
fruit and veggies, minimum of 6 glasses of water.

To calculate food and activity points, I love this computer desktop calculator ...
    xmission.compoints.exe

WW suggests your ideal weight should be somewhere between 116 and 145 depending on your age.

The basic plan is easy. Eat at least your minimum daily number of points. Points do not carry over
from day to day. You are allotted 35 weekly flexpoints to be used at your discretion ... can divide
them up and use daily (would be an additional 5 points per day) or save them and use them for a
special occassion during the week. Activity points are earned based when exercising, but can ONLY be
used on the day they are earned.

If you can afford $15/month, the online ww program might be a great thing for you to look into.
There is lots of information available, as well as the food point database and journaling system.

    Joyce WW starting weight: 228.8 - 2/5/02 current weight: 133.3 Lifetime: 4/4/03

Disclaimer: As an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup, asdww is unusual in that most of the people who
participate are respectful, considerate folks who freely share their experience with and knowledge
of WW, weight loss, and maintenance. Yet occasionally, spammers, trolls, and flamers show up to post
advertising, false information, insults, and the like. Nearly all of the time, people like this are
just trying to yank someone's chain. Most of the regulars on this newsgroup offer their experience
as a suggestion to try if you're stuck, but are quick to advise that each person has to find what
works for him/herself. If someone posts something that doesn't sound right to you, ask the
newsgroup, ask your WW leader, or ask your health professional.

Much success on your weight loss journey! WW works!
