  1. hello,

New to biking, and I live in the Battle Ground/Ridgefield area, I am
looking for a female that would want to go on training rides in the
evening and longer rides on the weekend. My goal is to do Seattle to
    Portland in 2005

    anyone interested?

I would suggest that you bug my wife into riding more, but we're too far
north for you. Why don't you go to www.cascade.org and look in the
community forums? There's one called the "Buddy Board" to help you find
riding partners. The link looks something like this:

    http://www.cascade.org/Community/forum/categories.cfm?catid=5

    Good luck.

Ever heard of Pacific? It's just south of Auburn. Good cycling area,
actually. I can go east or west to climb out of the valley if I want
hills or I can go north along the inter-urban/ Green River trails if I
    want to keep it flat.

I've been running a lot lately so that I can do the Seattle Marathon in
Nov. I've got a story I can tell about why that's all my wife's fault
and I'm not really a masochist. I'm sure you've heard reasoning like
this before. So I'll save you the trouble of reading it and me the
trouble of typing it. Trust me, it's every bit as compelling as most
stories of the "It's all my spouse's fault" genre.

last year i pretty much skated all along the green river/interurban
trail 3 days a week. i got sick SICK of it. and i drove often to where
the two trails intersect near auburn to ride my bike out into the green
river valley (east) up to the green river gorge. very nice out there,
although i fear the rape potential of how lonely it is in places.

i live in west seattle, in the hills above west marginal way, so it's
not too far to the start of the green river trail. i was just there
skating saturday, although the entire route to algona/pacific and back
is too far for me to skate now without serious bonk.

hey, what do you know? me too, although i just want to run it and not
"race" it (lol, if you knew how slow i run you would laugh too).

i just got back from running hill repeats when i saw your first message
in this thread, and then i went and studied the seattle marathon map to
check out the hill situation on the course. then i came back and found
out you are planning on it too. 🙂 but don't worry, i won't come up with
some "we have to meet before the start and suffer in nervous chatter
    before the marathon" plan.

hope your running is going well and injury free,
    heather

I hear you! My route into work: up the interurban, left on the Green
River trail, cut over to 516 at the golf course, up the hill and N on
Military rd. BORING! I probably have not done that ride 1000 times yet,
    but I'm getting close.

It is a nice area. The rape potential is not a big issue for me, so I
ride out that direction all the time when I want to get good and lost.

I've been known to skate out there too, but I'm not especially good at
it. I manage to stay upright generally but I've never gotten any
farther than Briscoe Park on skates. Sometimes I'll ride my bike up to
the Statue of Liberty and back.

So we must have passed each other before. There's too much overlap for
    us not to have.

I'm not calling ANYBODY slow. My goal is to finish. That is all. It'd
be a drag to finish in 4:01 or something and feel like I've failed.

    Mary,

Go to one of the larger Portland bicycle stores (Bike Gallery, River
City, Bike 'n Hike) and pick up a copy of the Portland Wheelmans
"Spinning" magazine. They come out monthly and are free. They list
rides (some women specific, most mixed) from easy to hard levels. We
just did the "Two Ferry" tour Monday; it was well organized non-group
ride with lots of beautful scenery (and of course, 2 ferry rides) and
    loverly rollers!

Alternatly, check Yahoo! Groups for the Cycle Oregon group - there are
rides posted almost every weekend, although all of us will be gone
next week doing Cycle Oregon! 😄

Good luck, and hope to see you on the road sometime!
