  1. Yes !!!

My wife and I are the proud owners of our first bents.

We had an interesting time getting use to them. Seems having the "pressure" of the dealer watching me as I test drove the V2 made me a much better rider than I am now that I actually own one. :-) I should probably have a dealer watch me for the first few hundred miles !!! :-)

Anyway, as a newbie at this bent riding here's my experience so far (all 13 miles of it):

Starting is a pain !!! Aggh !! I hope I'll be able to appear more graceful in the future.

Clippless peddles are great, once I'm clipped in my confidence on the bike goes way up, it's just getting my foot in that is the difficult challenge. So far (knock on wood) I've yet to experience that slow-mo fall to the ground with my feet still firmly planted on the peddles.

Hills haven't been too bad ... especially if I'm past getting my feet secured in the clipless peddles.

The bikes are just beautiful, and yes, we've already had several cars stop and ask us what the heck we were riding (again, I wish I'd have looked a bit more stable for these future bent riders :-) ).

I'd have ridden more this weekend, but I wanted to strengthen my attrophied muscles slowly.

RANS V2 and V2 formulas are great !!!

    John

  2. John,

Congratulations on the new bents. I love V2 best set of compromises, IMHO.

To help you an startup, just remember, unlike DF (conventional) bikes, you
should downshift at every stop. This is exactly the same as shifting a car
into first when stopping. Takes a big load off the knees. Your biggest
danger, as a new benter, is knee injury.

While riding, try to peddle faster than you are used to. This is called
spinning and is a good thing (tm) on a bent.

Unclip before every stop and you will never fall over.

    Miles of Smiles,

    Tom

Gear down lower than you think you should
Clip one foot in and put the other pedal towards you. You can push on that
pedal without clicking in no problem to get going.

HAH! that happens once you get confident about your clipless pedals and
    forget you have them.

    Congrats on the new rides!

  4. You have a new V2 Formula! You lucky devil! Please give us a full report
    ASAP.

    I owned a 2001 V2 sold it,and just recently bought another one,same year.

I changed to the new style bars and new style fairing to fit them. I also
    insatlled a Tail Sok.

I am interested in riding a Formula as soon as I can locate one.

Good advice about gearing down and it's actually easier to keep the right
    foot engaged while stopped.
That way you can get pedal to upright postion to start, just make sure you
keep your weight shifted to left foot so you don't lose your balance and
    fall over,been there,done that!

All depends on which is your dominant leg. I prefer to balance on the right foot and leave the left foot strapped in for the first pedal stroke. But then again I'm a Southpaw!

    Congrats on your new rides!

    Ben,

Your mishap occurred about 2 miles west of the North Fork Access Clinton
Lake landing, if I recall correctly.
