It has nothing to do with France. It is a UCI fine, if you looked you would see that the fine
is in SFR.

Nike will probably pay the fine for them. They will make up the fine with all the Fred's jumping at
the chance to buy the "retro" jersey.

Posties stole the jersey and did a quick Iron-on switch-a-roo? Come on the fine is trivial(and
dished out by the UCI), and it is a way to bring attention to a nice gesture from one old and

I was wondering about this yesterday, when P & P mentioned that US Postal would be fined.
What exactly is considered an "irregular" jersey? Were ONCE fined because they wore yellow
and black uniforms in the time trials, but pink and black on every other stage? What about
the national champions, wearing their national colors instead of their team's colors? (I'm
just curious. I don't mean to sound like I'm whining 🙂

National champs are allowed to wear the different uniform.

National champion (and world champ) jerseys are a long established part of cycling.

ONCE's normal jersey is the yellow, but it is deemed too close to the TdF leaders jersey,
hence the pink.

Since the TTs are individual events the jerseys clash isn't important
- and it saves them the expense of making separate skinsuits.

You might want to ask the Poles about that timeframe. There is also the thought that there were not
really two distinct world wars, but a continuous one ala the cold war.
