  1. I went to see a new podiatrist yesterday concerning my ongoing foot
problems. He immediately found the mass in my left arch without me having to
    point it out to him.
He also knew who I got my orthotics from just by looking at them, he said
"He's about the only one who makes these".

His thoughts are that the mass in my foot is the result of the healing of
the fascia after my inital injury in '03. He thinks it's very likely I tore
    it.
He said the mass might go away after a long layoff but it may not either.

He looked at my feet and said they really aren't bad and that I don't
clearly need orthotics. He took the sockliners from my shoes, added a number
of pads to the arch and heel and then went outside and had me run while he
observed. He added another firmer piece to the left heel after that and had
me run some more, he said my feet were "doing what they should".

I'll see how it goes and see him again in a month, he said he would order an
MRI of the foot if it continues to cause me pain to confirm what's going on
with it. So the orthotics go in the shoe bin. He said they were probably
causing me pain when used in combination with a stable shoe due to how stiff
they are. He also questioned the fit as I developed a big blister on my left
arch after running 5 miles in cotton socks last Thursday morning. It was
below zero and I didn't want any exposed skin. He doesn't think Shockwave
treatment is indicated for me. Well, I should be well rested, my household
has been hit with a dose of a virus again. The past month is the least I've
    run in years.

Sounds like you've found someone with their head screwed on right. Lets
hope this marks the beginning of your full recovery!

    This is a good sign!

Sounds like you might have a winner here - or at least better than your old.

Good luck with your recovery and going forward.

  4. Next he'll be posting the results of his latest pap smear. Stay tuned.

    Parker,
I know this is my usual knee jerk reaction but if you have a mass and he
thinks it is scar tissue from the healing of a tear or severe trauma of
some sort, then I suggest you find a massage therapist for some cross
friction work. I'm not a doctor but those masses are in fact a healed
mass and will not go away without some overt action. It's the fascia
either side of the lump that is likely overly stretched and sore.
Massage, and not one session either, will tear it down and allow it to
heal properly. Ask the doc or ask a MT that you know and love.

I apologize on this issue but I've sent some notes and he is too busy or
out of the country. He has not showed up at a run for about 6 weeks and
    nobody has seen him.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. It's not
really overstreched and sore at this point, as I've not been doing much
running and I'm doubtful massage will get rid of it. Believe me, I've
massaged the [censored] out of it with my hand, a golfball, frozen water bottle, a
foot log, etc. That's why I had an interest in shockwave, I was thinking it
might have a chance of breaking it up. This doctor said it's not a big deal
for it to be there if it's just an annoyance but if it continues to cause
pain then he would explore ways to address it.

There's nothing to apologize for, I appreciate the effort you've made so
    far.

    Don't be gross.

(I think I still have my picture of my haemorrhoids somewhere if you're
    interested.....)
