What's cool is when someone passes that hard-to-define point between fat and
just overweight. You've passed it. You're no longer fat. Congrats!Daria

the way a person's body is structured. "Fat" to me connotes "extra material"
with a lack of firmness, while one can have good tone and still be "just
overweight." It's all on a continuum, and I think the OP passed the crucial
point. I think she looks good now, if that wasn't clear.Daria

thanks - but i am totally still "fat" - i can just squeeze it in smaller
jeans and I have less around my face so I look less fat. I have 30lbs to
lose still and ALOT of excercise ahead!! -

So how much extra fat does a person need to be "fat" as opposed to
"overweight"?Don't really know. I feel my normal weight to be 180. When I reached
195, co-workers commented that I was getting a beer belly. When I reached
210, someone said to me, "Geez, your really starting to blimp out, aren't
you?". So I'm thinking it's not that much weight between what's considered
overweight and fat to some people.

TomYeah but you could be fat for you - compared to normal weight, and look fat
to people who know you but not to strangers. Um - nice friends, btw!! -

Yes, I suppose they get used to seeing you at a certain weight and
expect you to be the same the next time they see you. If not, then a person
would appear fat compared to the last time they met.
The comments my friends made are just a sneaky way of saying something
important in a jokingly manner. Comments like these are meant to be a "heads
up". If they're joking about it, then you know that others probably feel the
same way and would like to say "You need to lose weight buddy" but can't put
it together in a way that won't hurt your feelings. The correct male
response would be something like, "This is my new look so the girls know I
don't have aids", or "Yeah, the farmer's almanac says it's going to be a
cold winter so I thought I'd bulk up now for the lean times ahead". It shows
them that you've also been thinking about it and intend to do something
about it. It's kind of hard to explain that this is just a form of
communication amongst friends. You could never say that to a stranger. Even
between us friends, if the comment was percieved as hurtful, then we back
off right away, knowing that there are stronger emotions along with the
problem. Really, we are all good friends and do a lot of socializing and
vacationing together. I don't see a lot of girls doing this. It would be
perceived as catty. Even though men don't display emotion in the same way,
there are ways of telling what the other guy is thinking and feeling without
seeming too sensitive to the issue. Sorry this is long. I didn't want you to
think my buddies are unfeeling. They're more like brothers really, and we
all have known each other a long time.

It was worth the wait for a working link.
You look like a different person.
