I would try it, but as candle-wax on the bits of cleat that rub on the
pedal has stopped it, albeit temporarily, each time, it's clearly being
caused by said rubbing. Of course, they haven't been creaking lately
despite not waxing them. I've found that the creak only happens when I
ride the bike, and that hasn't happened for a while. Too much work and
other stuff. Oh well, only a couple of weeks 'til it eases up a bit.

No, definitely the cleats. My creaking knees make a whole different
sound, one that no use of candles is going to fix in a hurry. -

Don't get me wrong, it gives me the [censored]. Shoes and cleats (and bolts)
have been replaced (original shoes were shimanos, so I'd hope it wasn't
them)- they still creak. They've been lubed, cleaned and re-lubed (with
a variety of different lubes); they still creak. I'm not so silly to
assume that all examples of this pedal will creak, but mine do, and
that's the only experience I have with them. Took quite a while for it
to happen though, so maybe it's atypical. Are sure it's not your feet that are creaking?
Damn those detachable toes.
