Hmmm interesting, no not looked at Scott at all....Think I will do now, the picture you posted is of a silver 2006 Q920, I have it on good authority that the 2007 version will be pure white....Can't wait to see a picture of it.....

[font='Comic Sans MS']I trust you looked at the bikes Steve is considering, I ride a Scott genius and as I mentioned it suits my style of ridding perfectly at least half of my ride is an uphill climb, various surfaces, The other half is various bouncy cross country track. So after much deliberation I choose a Full Suspension bike with lock out front and rear shocks. [/font]

For $1500, I'd buy something used. I'd be upset if I had to ride Deore on a 28+ lbs bike. I have an older hardtail outfitted with XT-R I bought for around $1000 that weighs under 24 (can't remember anymore exactly).

Find a quality used bike, it should be lighter and better component-wise.

My 2 cents.

You gotta consider a Gary Fisher Cake, its right where you want to be on price and offers great performance and durability, most importantly, they are light. Made for trail riding with either 4 or 5 inches of travel, its my next mountain bike when i have the money. Used bikes can be risky since you dont get the lifetime warrantees like a new bike. I think they are redoing the site for 07, doesnt even look like the cakes are up. They start from $999 and then go pretty high, the 999 one has v brakes and 4 inches of travel, my local shop has one. anyway, try this, click 2006 bikes then start with the cake 3: fisherbikes.comarchiveOpen ↗

What the other guys said. Second had can be good if you can pick one up thats barely used, sometimes ppl buy and their circumstances change. Anything well used you can be up for some upgrades and replacements which can cost more than what you paid initially.

Know the style of riding you want to get into no point in investing money in XC then you find out you want to do Downhill.

Waiting for a 2007 model could mean you are paying a full RRP/MSRP premium for the privledge and sometimes its a paint job upgrade. Know your specs and what they are worth.
Check current or past models which some shops may be still holding but want to clear. and Shop around I think you should be able to get a $1800-$2200 bike for about $1500 on a clearance model. and maybe better specs than a 2007

One thing my mate always says to me, " you have to pay to play" If you under spec your bike for the type of riding you want to do, you may have a cheaper bike but be back in the shop for a repair upgrade the next week when you break or find it unsuitable. Best thing if you can do is try a few bikes, mates, demo etc. if you can. I rode my brothers old $800 hardtail on different trails and single tracks until I decided it was for me then bought a more suitable bike. As for spending the nccessary for the goodness. I initially was looking at 1500-1800 but I bought a $3200 bike for $2500 which suited my needs.

Wouldn't white bike get dirty - gray in few month? thwt isaquestion. however seems to me you can paint your purchase with whatever paint you need if you really want to.

Had a look at the Q920 specs. Ok except it runs a Judy. Heavy, yet twists ++ due to the thin staunchions/upper tubes. Very noticeable on technical downhill / drops. Personally for $1500 I'd go second hand as well. If you're set on new, I'd go for a 06 Trance 3.
