New Job - 6 mile longer commute

Congratulations! 10 miles each way is the absolute max that I'd consider
doing each day, but should be fine once you get used to it.

Is there an alternative for the winter/when you're tired?

the distance should not be a problem. When my commute went from 6 to 11
miles (moved house) I was used to it in a fortnight. Normally on a
recumbent, occasionally a racer, Ive been riding my Pompino singlespeed
this week with no problems (probably good for my technique).

since when was an excuse for new toys a problem? 🙂

My commute went from 5 to 11. Took a few weeks to get used to it, no
more.

Then I changed from hybrid to audax bike. Now 11 miles is too short if
it's not raining, so when it's nice, I go the long way to get as much
exercise as before. May sound stupid, but gives me the option of
getting home quicker when the weather's poor.

He's on the south coast, they don't get winter down there. It's more a
colder wetter sort of summer, like wot we get up here in June..

Very true. I commuted to Winchester through all of last 'winter' and
only needed a fleece and, occasionally, a cheap waterproof.

single speed, until the fixed wheelset arrives.

which suits my getting used to it, & my lack of fitness (coasting
occasionally & definitely down hills) 🙂
