  1. Hi all,

I have been lurking here a little for the last couple of months and a couple
of weeks ago decided to go for it.

    A little background - 10 months ago I was 5'3 and about 120 lbs. I grew in
that short time to 145 pounds and was continually growing. I know why.

Exactly 10 months ago I started at this fantastic new company. Great
benefits, in fact always rated in the top 10 of the top 100 places to work
for in Canada and the US. They keep our kitchen stocked with about 5 types
of granola bars, protein bars, jujubes, M&M's (both kinds), cup of soups,
mixed nuts, I could go on LOL. Every friday we get a free complete
breakfast, fridge is full of yoghurt and other snacks. It made it too easy
    to just snack all day!

So going low carb was going to be a challenge for me because of the free
food I am surrounded by, so I decided to lurk, learn and make it as doable
for myself as I could. I purchased a deep freeze, a big indoor grill (I had
a george foreman, but I wanted a big one), a food processor (I hate chopping
veggies) tonnes of tupperware and proceded to cook and cook all these
delicious low carb meals I could find. I made about 60 individual frozen
meals and brought a bunch to work, I researched, and planned.

Bottom line is I am loving this!!!!

I am not doing atkins, or south beach or any particular diet. I also don't
like the convenience snacks or fake products. What I am doing is very
similar to Atkins. Basically Atkins without giving up my morning coffee - I
    drink it black anyway.

So since starting this 10 days ago I have lost 6lbs already. I know it's
water, but the difference is amazing. I can see it in my face already. Not
only that I feel really good. The first couple of days I felt really bad,
but then I totally rebounded and feel better than I have in a while.

I decided it was time to post and get active in the group, and also want to
thank you all for all the advice I've gotten just from lurking.

  2. Hi Loa

Sounds like you're off to a good start, and that you're well prepared. Good
luck for facing the trials of the kitchen at work!

Atkins with coffee is still Atkins. Dr. Atkins didn't make eliminating
coffee an absolute requirement. He only indicated it might be a
problem for some people. There are many of us here that have done
Atkins, continued to drink coffee and lost weight with no problem.

Welcome and good luck. Avoiding the snacks that are available at work
won't be easy. I'd make sure you always have some LC snacks kept at
work, so if you get tempted by the company snacks, you will have an
    available alternate.

  5. Wow! sounds like real commitment to me. I am sure you will be
successful if you can maintain that level of commitment. 60 frozen
meals. Damn. I'm lucky when I do three days in advance.

PS- Don't sweat the coffee unless your results are less than what you
want. It's not really a problem for most people. And don't forget to
move around more, like exercise or something ;-)

Hi Loa, welcome to the group! I'm piggybacking on someone else's
response because for some as-yet-unknown reason my newsreader filtered
out your original post. Sounds like you're doing a GREAT job!

  8. Great going, Loa!! You don't have to do Atkins, SB or any published plan to
do LC. Just cut the junk carbs and limit the total amount of them.

Congrats and welcome to the group.

The best part of how you are doing it is the fact that you are cooking
real food and making real meals. Use fresh ingredients and stay away
from overly processed [censored] that sits on the shelf forever.

You will see an improvement in general health very quickly.
