    Hi,
I am new to this forum, and wanted to get some advice as to my
running. I have been running off and on for a few years, and have
gotten pretty serious in the last two and half months or so. I'm up
to about 15-20 miles a week, with my longest run of 7 miles. I feel
pretty good after the runs, I am just having a hard time getting my
speed up! It seems like I am stuck at about 10 min/miles, regardless
    of the distance.

I am hoping to do a 1/2 marathon this spring. I am not really sure
how best to train for this?

If your goal is simply finishing, you can probably finish a half
    marathon even now.

Wrong! Bad advice. Don't listen to him. Train properly, building up your
mileage slowly and you'll do great! : )

i didn't see the OP's goals stated. If it's just "to finish",
there's no doubt the OP could do it right now. and since
it'll be his/her first, that'll be sufficient. don't make this into
life or death. it's only a run. and i'm sure a 7 mile run
with feeling pretty good thrown in afterwards is plenty
of prep to do a half. with a little care and one or two
long runs to get the food intake correct, even a
marathon is doable. loads of people do it every year.

my advice: do it. aim for a slow time. get the half
under your belt and note what training improvements
you could work on for later in the summer.

Now John, you have used this same pre pubescence quote for a few years.

We need originality. 😉 And yes, Bush still sucks!

Doug, Doug, Doug. You spelled "rocks" incorrectly.

A recent complaint, with my running/xtraining:

I find that I am gettring terrible leg
cramps on days that i do not run,
when i spend a lot of time at my computer,
    basically, not moving around much.
    This is getting bothersome.

Is there any way you can move a little more on these computer days?
Maybe no more than 15 minutes of sitting at a time.

I do yoga, stretch, etc, but the cramps
    have been quite irritating recently,
and there are definite days when I do not
    want to spend several hours working out;
It feels like exercise withdrawal, but feels
    worse that usual.

Where are you getting these cramps? In your calves? I think women are
more prone to these leg cramps. Are you drinking enough water? If you
are, what about your sodium and potassium intake?

What about a walk on your non-running day? That may help loosen your
    muscles.

Of course there is. Simply buy a wireless keyboard and mouse, and stand up. The
human body was never intended to sit in a chair.

    It's because he's so fat. Mrs Claus doesn't want a lard-ass.

Then why not try to guess why the fat porker can't get laid, instead of passing
    it over and [censored].

Then, Eri, may I kindly suggest you run elsewhere. This board is dedicated
to trolling, psychotic poetry, and generalised arguing about diets, weight
loss, marathon predictions and other silly stuff. There is *nothing* of
use to you here unless you enjoy any of the aforementioned.

This is true, but Roger only posts a couple times a week, so it's bearable.

Yes, movement would help. I've found recenlty that my "creative spells" are
best left uninterrupted, so I am moving much less than I typcally do. Tehc
reative stuff is going well, but my body is rebelling. Some imbalance needs
    correcting. Or both will suffer.

Cramps in lenth of legs. Water fine, perhaps more potassium, as junk foost has
crept into the diet. Most likely, cramps are resulting from not enough use,
legs are accustomed to running around busily a lot. The muscles just crave
use, and stuck at the desk, where mind is happy, body is screaming out:
    Something is WRONG. HELP.
