I have a Rock Shox Tora 302 on my GT Avalanche and it's served me well. No complaints here.

Im most likely going to go with a dart 3 or tora 302. is installing a new fork difficult? or is the only thing you need to do cut the tube to the same length as the current one and swap them out?

That's probably 90% of the new installation ...

You will also need to move the shoulder race from the old fork to the new fork ...

And, tap the Star Nut into the steerer.

BTW. I find that it is MUCH EASIER to install the new fork with the frame turned upside-down ... that is, let gravity assist you (rather than fight you) in setting the fork in the frame ... this applies to Road forks, too.

FYI. In case you don't already know, the primary function of the Top Cap is used to adjust/load the tension on the headset bearings.
