  1. Maybe this is obvious to non-newbies, but I found that the hungier I am before a meal, the lower my
BG is 45 minutes later (my peak, when I usually test). Any experience confirming or refuting this?

Are you testing before eating? Could you be eating more or eating faster because of the hunger? I
have no clue since I don't test at the 45 minute mark.

If you feel more hunger, chances are that's partly due to lower BG at the time. Start out lower,
raise the same amount, end up lower.

  4. Julie,

I always eat the same number of calories (400). I used to test before meals, and found generally but
not always the hungerier I felt the lower my BG. Now I just test at my peak - for me 45 minutes
after eating. I don't think I eat faster when hungry - but I swear the same food tastes better!

  5. I find it`s usually a good sign that the Insulin is working well (balanced);-) and my BGs are in the
low/correct range. It might be good practise to test for a while when this happens and adjust (if
    neccessary).

For me it has never been a problem, maybe resisting the urge to snack is a bigger prob for me LOL

  6. Wes,

that makes sense. I'm going to try to be quite hungry before I eat - I'll start out at lower BG thus
rise to a lower BG at peak. At least, that's the theory.

  7. don't you count carbs? and why do you always eat 400 calories? peaking in 45 minutes is sorta
    strange...

  8. Dave,

re: peaking in 45 minutes - I have problems with insulin sensitivity, not type II. Re: carbs - I
usually have 25 grams or less of carbs (100 calories or less) of my 400 calorie meals.

  9. so you are peaking early because you are countering the food with plenty of fast acting insulin like
    Humalog or what??

  10. My BG shoots up too fast (and overshots) and then crashes - after a big carb load. I'm not
    taking any meds.

    Hi Brad

I also usually peak around earlier, around 50 minutes, sometimes later if I had a significant fat
content in the meal. I'm not on meds or insulin either. Others here can explain the roller coaster
with liver dumps and so on. I'm more simplistic. If I eat too many carbs over too short a period, my
    Bgs go over 10
    (180) at 50 to 65 minutes after starting to eat. When they go that high at one hour, they go below 5
    (90) or sometimes as low as 3.6 (65) at two hours. The lower the post prandial high, the less
dramatic the low. Solution for me: don't eat too many carbs over too short a period. Works
every time. Of course, easier to say it then to do it, and "too many carbs" can be different
    at different times of day.
