  1. Hi

for quiet a while now I've been feeling tied, ratty,
headaches and just lately dizzy on occasions. Been to my GP
and my blood sugar was 7.2. I had another blood test were i
fasted for 12 hours then drank lucozade then had another 2
hours later. The readings were: 7.0 and 7.2 at the 2 hour
mark. my GP says I have diabetes and I've had another
fasting blood test this morning, dont know the results yet.
What do you think? Also, sometimes if I miss a meal I become
very hungry and 'shaky' and have to down tools and eat. Any
    help much appriciated.

First thing get a BG meter. Then do what you have to do to
maintain BG's as close to nondiabetic numbers as possible.

    quick conversion (7.0 -> 216 and 7.2 -> 219.6 in the U.S).
Welcome to the club that no one wanted to join. The shakes
and getting hungry are do to going lower than your body is
used to. (You'll need a meter to check if those are true
hypos or happening when your bg is still above 70 (4 in your
units).) I'm not sure why your GP has done yet another
fasting test (unless one of these tests was an A1c, where
the normal range depends on the lab, but below 6 is the
    usual goal).

The best advice is to test frequently and work out which
menu items (and their portion size) that you can tolerate in
combinations. The general goal is to eat more higher fiber
carbohydrate choices, reduce intake of highly processed
carbs (not just sweets), and increase exercise. (Protein and
fats will delay the rise in bg but can lead to a late rise
in bg that will stay high for a long period.)

To reduce your chances for complications, you should work to
get your bg down as soon as possible.

Cindy Wells (I hope this helps - but remember with diabetes
    your mileage will vary.)

As with a previous newbie, I'll be general. I suggest you
find out as much as you can about your disease - how and
when to measure your blood glucose, what the figures mean,
what other checkups to do - such as eyes, kidneys, blood
pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, etc - what to eat; the
power of excercise, losing weight - basically on the need to
modify your lifestyle. Get yourself a good diabetic
specialist - one who doesn't say "I wouldn't worry about
    this....."

Stay on this newsgroup - there a lot of good people here
with a lot of good information. Beware of quacks, scammers
and spammers - there's nothing to stop them from pushing
their [censored] here. You'll soon know who the reputable posters
are. (I've been reading this newsgroup daily for almost ten
years - it's prolonged my life).

You slipped in an odd hundred points somewhere. The
    conversion factor is
    18.
    19. mmol/l = 126 mg/dl
    20.2 mmol/l = 129 mg/dl

Oops. Guess I shouldn't try to do that calc in my head with
    a migraine. Sorry. Cindy Wells
