I've been wanting to upgrade my current stock of Reverware pots

the Corning-Revere outlet store in Southern WA last weekend and
got a set including a 3 qt. pan and 4.5 qt. "dutch oven" pot with
two side handles. Yay! No more burned mashed potatoes... :-)

I've got a couple Revereware pans, JJ. One is a FOUR-quart saucepan
that I use for darned near everything except making jam and jelly. The
other is a 1-quart saucepan. I love them.

I remember when the standard for a dutch oven was six quarts. Now,
one's lucky to find a 5-quart capacity. I wonder why the change.

talked into buying a few years ago. So I finally made it down to

    I KNOW! I KNOW!

Has to be because the only people who know how to cook these days
(judging by the recent topic of convenience foods) are *us old farts*
and our arthritis and bodgy joints prevent us being able to lift
    anything too big!!!

I was fortunate to inherit my grandmother's very large set of
RevereWare that is now about fifty years old and still every bit as
good as when first purchased for her by her by my aunts nd uncles one
long ago Christmas. Silly me, I replaced it all with new RevereWare
when giving the grandmother set to my son for the first-time furnishing
of his own kitchen. Big mistake! The newer stuff may be as well made
as old, but it certainly is not as heavy and either the lids or the
pans themselves seem to be out of round so that way too much steam is
allowed to escape while in use. I am very disappointed in my new set,
but super-son has great respect for oldies that will serve him well for
    many years to come.

I've got that stuff too, and I love it. Only problem was caused by
me. I tend to pour soaking water into the pans when they're still
hot, and the bottoms warp. :-(

Family size. The webpage below says a 4qt dutch oven serves main dish
servings 2-12 side dish servings 8-10 and a 6qt main dish servings 6-18
side dish servings to 30. Not as many want 18 servings of something.

Hey, most of my cookware is le crueset.... AND I make my own pasta!!
(Ergo, why I know why most Italian pasta makers have upper arms and
    forearms to rival any wrestler!!!)
These arms are capable of lifting just about anything - have even been
known to rip doors off a fridge (no joke...don't ask!)

OT: Bought my Mum a fabulous ridged pan (Scanpan if memory serves) and
she took it back because it was too heavy for her! Bought some silly
unsubstantial piece of rubbish (and pocketed the change...grrr) then
complained that it cooked badly. Gee.. wonder why?

DH and I wandered into the local hardware store a couple of weeks ago
and discovered that they had things that must have been there for 20
or 30 years. When is the last time you saw replacement parts for a
Thermos? I found a set of Revere pots and pans with the aluminum disk
bottoms that were made in Clinton, IL. The copper bottomed sets were
also made in Clinton. I really did not need the whole set but I did
want the 4.5 quart pan and the skillet. Paid $160 (including 7%) tax
    for a 9 piece set.

*WHERE* in Southern WA, Jani? Vancouver? (I'm sure hoping you meant
SW WA as compared to SE--cos I'm not heading across the mountains for
awhile, but a trip to Powell's in Portland is in the 'soon' list.
