    he's a "mark"....

    he's an industry "toady"....

He's paid by industry to try to keep a lid on the low-carb
diet that is threatening his business interests.

Sounds plausible to me..... why else would he be on all my
posts like white on rice. He seems to want to respond to
every single one of my posts except for the ones when I ask
him who is paying him. Suspicious indeed.

Come on. You cannot suspect anybody disagreeing with you as
    part of conspiracy.

Perhaps mark is upset on your single-sided approach and his
replies to your posts exhibit it.

Try to read his posts to other people as well. I find them
totally accurate and even somewhat "lowcarbish".

Although there are plenty of people like that and it is
easy to jump to that conclusion you should keep in mind
that not everyone is ill-intentioned. Unfortunately
there are many of people who have the best intentions
but are just incredibly misguided. I see people all the
time who are good and decent people doing what they
truly believe is beneficial when in fact they are
completely wrong and doing harm. I would say most people
in the medical field are like that vs. corrupt and
sinister. I remember seeing one of the origonal
Charlie's Angels girls talking about health and breast
cancer or something and passionately saying how butter
is the devil. I didn't know whether to laugh or scream
it was so ridiculous. It really is a scary and
    disturbing world out there.

Who knows. Perhaps he feels no sense in reply - maybe
he does not work for anybody but thinks you would not
    trust him 🙂

Who do YOU work for? 🙂

I work as a computer programmer/analyst for an insurance
company. I have no financial interests in any diet or
nutrition related business or product, nor do I have any
financial interest with any food or pharmaceutical company
    or business.

    Clear enough?

You appear to have but one arrow in your quiver, but one
string on your guitar. Your harping on this "whom do you
work for" question is extremely boring. Atkins "worked for"
a supplement and food manufacturer with expensive low-carb
products. He profited greatly from books on a low-carb diet.

Well, Mr. Detective, why don't you INFER from his thoughtful
and broad-spectrum posts whom he works for? I infer that he
is a clinician or consultant with no financial interest in
any product or diet or book.

You work for an insurance company. Insurance companies do
have a vested interest in pharmaceutaical companies.

    Mirek

I learned early on in my programming career that when
dealing with massive amounts of data and complicated
calculations that one cannot assume that the result or the
process is correct, and there is no one that can look at
your numbers and say "that is bang on". You have to suspect
everything until you've done a thorough job of reviewing a
large number of individual calculations to be as certain as
possible that all the calculations will be correct.

The upshot being that you have to meticulously verify the
facts yourself. And if the facts do not make sense, you
have to be able to see it and, more importantly, you have
to become sharp enough to trust your knowledge and be
able to determine what appears to be wrong and what
    appears to be right.

We programmers, are better prepared to believe in what makes
sense intellectually than the typical citizen. Non
programmers are more prepared to accept the word of
scientists without questioning it, even when it is doesn't
seem to make even basic common sense.
