What do I think? My last chiro was recommended to me by a training partner. I used him and never experienced one bit of pain during the treatments. But, he never really helped me either. When I went to the gym tonight and told Ron I went to Dr. Fred, he said that he went to him once and was nearly on the ceiling from the pain. But, he fixed his leg problem in one session.
I'll take 10 minutes of torture to put bones back in place that were seriously out of place any day. Besides, the follow up session this afternoon wasn't more than 10 seconds (and really not painful like the morning) if you don't count the 10 minutes of heat. Besides, the afternoon session was nothing when compared to unracking (and reracking...that's even more painful when the weight comes off) a barbell...something I do at least a half a dozen times a week.
Glad it's working for you. I just wish I understood WHY it works.
(some) chiro stuff isn't all that different from what a physio will do to fix things. Sometimes things get out of place, and it really shouldn't be surprising that they work better when they're back in the right place.
Last time I had a back problem, it got fixed by a physio, but I'd guess a competent chiro would have done about the same thing, which was basically yank my spine round until the vertebra which had got twisted round popped back into place.
John - just bear in mind that you'll be lifting more in a year's time if you get through the meet with slightly lighter weights that don't break you than if you go all out and screw your back up again. Good luck.
I'm still speculating that everything is good to go now as I'm pretty
sore but, I had one of those back rib thingies pushed down on top of another rib as well as a disk that was out of place. This was stuck there so he needed to move all of those things back to where God intended them to be. Plus, he needed to do this all at once because I have a meet this weekend. So, being the fellow powerlifter that he is, he obliged me by giving me the "emergency" treatment. He put everything back in place, the pain be damned...I've got a meet.>
You believe in the tooth fairy too, don't you? John, when you return monday let me know, and I'll give you tips on finding a non-quack.

Good luck in your meet.
D./G./whoever the hell I am this week
Thanks, W!
BTW, he insists he sees me as soon as I come back. I think he suspects what I suspect in that I'm probably going to dislocate those ribs again this weekend. Go heavy or go home. Hehe.

I don't expect my back to be any worse than it was and am willing to go through that adjustment again. I do plan on going easy with the squats and hard with the pulls next training cycle. But, thanks for your support, Peter!

The pain in my upper back is so bad now that 135 hurts and it doesn't let up during the squat. So, I went to a new chiropractor today. He's Dr. Fred Clary who also set a few world records in the APF as a teenage (793 deadlift at 275 was one). Anywho, he tells me I have a rib overlapping another and a disk out of place. He asks me when my next meet is and I tell him I'm flying out early Friday. He asks me if I expect him to walk on water.
So, he says he's going to be pretty rough on me today. He wasn't kidding. I've never experiences so much pain for so long before. He kept putting pressure on the spot I get the pain from for what seemed like 10 minutes and he was pushing hard. Then he quickly placed his other hand on my spine and cracks my back in such a way I feel it throughout my back. He does the same thing in a little different spot and then wammo, my whole back explodes again. He cracked my back once more and then put my neck through it's paces, cracking it twice. The last time he yells, "there it is!" and says that's enough. Then tells me he wants to see me this afternoon.
I went back for more punishment this afternoon. He had my lay on my belly and put heat on my upper back and neck for about 10 minutes. He then came back and crunched my back and neck about 4 or 5 times within about 10 seconds and said, "you're done".
So now I feel like I've been in a car accident but I don't have any rib pain any more. Just some very sore muscles. I just hope I heal up enough by Saturday that pain won't be an issue. Oh, and, he told me to start doing high pulls. I guess that gives me an excuse to buy more bumpers:-)
Guy sounds like a quack. Strong SOB, but a quack nonetheless.
On the contrary, the tissues on my upper back are sore as hell but everything feels like it's in place for the first time in a year and a half. I spent more than a dozen sessions with my last chiro and I could never say that. Plus, other powerlifters I know swear by him. But, you're right, he is strong as hell. So strong that I thought that spot he was putting pressure on was going to snap...I guess it did but upwards where it belongs.
Hey, hope it all works out for you. Personally, I don't put much stock in the backcracking trade, but who knows? Good luck.

All this leaves me wondering if the notion of taking a month off ever occurred to you.
I'll have you know that I'm not geeky enough to be in the movie theater at midnight for the opening of Episode III.
Ignore the fact that I'm on usenet. I'm cool, I tell you, COOL!
(Okay, I confess, the only reasons I'm not at the movies right now is that a kid has a huge standardized test tomorrow, plus I'm worried losing that much sleep will hurt my triathlon training.)
What about you: are you going to see it?
Delenn
Nah. I'll wait a week or two.
I will wait until it comes out on DVD as I have a kick ass home theater and don't have to listen to kids talk behind me.

I like Star Wars, but fell asleep in Episode 2. That was the crappiest of the Star Wars movies. It just didn't seem to have a plot.
I didn't have anything actually, it just sucked out loud.

Or maybe it was that everything kind of blended together. Whatever...it sucked.
