It's possible the old chain wore the cog in such a way so that the new chain doesn't quite
track in it.

But the thing I would check first is whether the links where the chain was together joined move
freely. If the chain is tight there, this sort of skipping can result.

Maybe also verify the new chain has the same number of links as the old one.

Sounds like your 12 cog is worn. Although 3000 miles is early for cassette wear IMO, it sounds like
you use your 12 cog, and a smaller cog will wear more quickly than a larger one, right?

If I was some studly sprinter, my 12 might be worn, but I'm not, and when I do use it I am not
torqueing on it. I have been happy with the chain, but I will try the other guy's suggestion about
checking the links. Thanks.

If 11-23, turn the snap link over so the more gradual cutout goes against the cog.

Do you spend a lot of time on that sprocket? Sounds like it is worn out. 3000 miles is not unheard
of for that, especially with a small sprocket. Of course, if it is not your "favorite" gear, this
would not apply.

Either you have a stiff link or your 12T is shot. 3k miles is enough to develop a wear pattern
incompatible with a fresh chain. especially on small cogs where the pressure per tooth is much
higher. Get a new 12T and I'l bet lunch your skip vanishes. l
