New Chain for Chorus 10

Yep, Wipperman nickel plated or the new Mavic 10s chain,
same chain, bulk packaged.

I've had great luck with the IRD Sports chain. Its like
skips if you use an 11t cog. The chain with link is ~$25 and
is black, which I consider a feature.

The early innovators here have discovered that the DA 10sp
chain works great with Campy with an Sram Powerlink II Gold.
The Connex 10 link clicked with the chain on small cogs. The
Sram link is narrower, not at the pins but in between
plates. The link plates can move toward each other. An no,
the Sram link doesn't fall out. I can confirm that because I
used the link in the IRD chain.

The KMC 10 link is not removable and problems have been
reported with the link. My guess is that the problems are
caused because the install wasn't done properly.

The Wipperman is well tested but pricy.

My first choice is actually a Shimano HG 9sp chain with a
Sram Gold link.

I'm using the KMC 9spd chain on my Record 10 drive train.
This chain came with a quick link that resembles the SRAM
Gold link but is a little different in that when installing
you have to pull the chain taut to snap the link together.
I could not unlink the quick link using my bare hands only.
What I did to was to use a pair of needle nose pliers to
pinch the quick link's protruding pins towards one another.
It came apart with a little persistence. I really like the
KMC 9spd chain as a more economical and just as
mechanically sound alternative to those more expensive 10
speed specific chains.

I truly wonder if the same feat can be accomplished with the
new Dura Ace?

Last week I spoke to the tech at KMC and she said that the
X10 has tested fine with the DA 10 system. That is a relief.
We have found that the Shimano 10 chains are a real pain.

Can any of the 9 speed HG chains be used or are there any
performance/compatability issues when using a 105 level 9
speed chain (CN-HG73) instead of Dura-Ace(CN-7701) or Ultegra(CN-
HG93) ? The 105 level chain is a lot cheaper than the other
Shimano chains or other 10 speed chains, and if
weight/finish is the only difference i'll try one of those.

I've been using HG72 chain. I wasn't even aware of a less
expensive HG chain. I certainly think that it would work as
well. For clarity, this is for Campy 10sp. I think the chain
too wide for DA 10 and also conversion 10sp cassettes on
Shimano hubs. The first 10sp chain I bought was for use on
an American Classic 10 conversion cassette.

Use the 10sp record chain with a wipperman/connex link. I've put almost 2000k on this setup with no problems, and smoother shifting with my Chorus cassettes than the 10sp connex chain. (BTW, I'm 6'2" and 250lbs - if anyone's going to test the chain setup, I am).
