I installed a mirror in the end of the handlebar tube on the left side. I can't believe I got along without it for so long. FWIW, the adjustable collet did not fit into the tube on my Giant Yukon MTB, but it turns out that the shaft of the mount sans collet was snug enough to pound it in with a mallet for a perfect fit. Works great. I highly recommend this model.

I like the Cateye BM-300G mirror, myself. It's so light, it keeps its position despite vibrations, etc, much better than other mirrors. I used them in the normal(end of bars) postion on several bikes, and currently have one with a modified mount atop my left hand brake on drop bars.

Worth looking into. I am surprised at how well I have adapted to its use. Sure saves trying to turn around to look most of the time.

The BigMirror-300G wouldn't fit my skinny MTB handlebar tube. The LBS had that one and I tried it first. No-go.
Do you have any pics of the brake mount?

It turns out that I have a right-side mirror installed on the left side (so I think). The mirror is teardrop shaped and it seems that the pointed part should be facing inwards. Mine was facing outwards making the mirrow narrower in the field where i was looking. I took a good look at the bike, my position, etc. and decided to try something. I rotated the support so it faces down and slightly back. This positions the mirror under the handlebar and believe it or not, is a much better position from which to see behind, for me at least. When I get over this stupid flu I will post some shots of this crazy orientation.
