However, it's quite accurate and I discovered I've been riding a lot faster than I thought I had. I now plan to buy an HRM unit at some point but have never used one before. Again, you can buy these at Argos.
The main problem I now have is the dark nights. This is a pain. I finish work at 8.00 a.m. so, after I rise around 15.00 p.m., I only have maybe 2 or 3 hours of light and I have to eat first. I guess I'll be riding through winter in the dark.

[font=Times New Roman]I have heard that wireless modules are affected by power lines. For that reason, I purchased the wired version. Have you heard of this or experienced this phenomenon[/font]

even wired ones are effected by over head power lines. power lines emit radiation at 50Hz (in the UK) whereas wireless data is transmitted using PWM at 2,000,000,000 Hz (2ish Ghz)....swings and roundabouts. The convience of wireless far outweighs the occasional glitch IMO.

all modern hrms are wireless, i have never encountered any problem with mine in years.

Thanks for the technical info. I suppose my LBS salesman was blowing smoke last year when I bought a new one...I'll have to take a wireless for a td

I do get the occasional problen with inteference but it is not that bad and you get to know where it will happen. You do also tend to pay more for wireless - but not that much more. It's not that bad to stop me using it or replacing with another wireless unit if it needs replacing.

How do you know that it's accurate if it shows a much faster speed than what you were expecting?
I had a bike computer once; I couldn't see it in the dark, it didn't work in the rain and eventually I scrapped it.

Probably didn't work near power lines either....

I'm very happy with it. It has a very large screen and was easy to fit.
However, I really have my work cut out. Spent the entire day working on these canal boats I got on the cheap. One of them is moored way out in the country so I have to cycle there and back. I worked today in the pouring rain scrubbing the boat and, wow, what an improvement!
Then I cycled back home. Then I ate.
Tomorrow I'll try and do an intense cycling ride up my usual 25 per cent climbs in deep countryside and hopefully work on the boats some more, if I have anything left in me.
You know, this boating lark is a bit of fun. Nothing like cruising slowly down the canals here once you've trained really hard on your bike. The girls in the bank have even said they'll join me on board so............... 🙂

Yes, I do very intense training on the bike. I'm a power rider and like to be inspired by Miguel Indurain who's the only Spanish cyclist who was an ace time-trialer as well as a decent climber.
I read a lot about Miguel and used to live in a town very close to his own, near Pamplona.
However, I see a lull in my training till I can get these boats sorted out. I don't see how I can hold down my job, work on the boats, weight train once a week and ride my bike hard all in one go.
Still, soon as I finsih the boats I'll be back on track.
