    This series now has a confirmed air date as Sunday 29/07/2007 at 21:00
    on BBC1 (nothing as yet for BBCHD, currently showing a repeat of
    Topgear

    --1st Eps writeup (source radiotimes)--
    Griff Rhys Jones begins his exploration of Britain's mountains in the
    breathtaking wilderness of the northwest highlands of Scotland. The
    area was once home to half the population of Scotland, but Griff finds
    a vast, empty landscape closer to the Arctic Circle than to his native
    London. He meets a crofter who wants to encourage people back to the
    land and an artist who enjoys the emptiness. On the Isle of Skye,
    Griff explores a mountain range that is privately owned, but up for
    sale.

    It did seem rather absurd when Griff sat down for his night "alone" in
    the bothy. I'm /amazed/ at how he managed to get a moderate sized gas
    lamp /and/ a bag of coal in his daypack along with the more usual
    overnight gear...

    Plus Tongue is not /that/ far from a train station - most people manage to
    travel to the North of Scotland without needing small private planes...

    Blame the director, not Griff. Directors have a habit of wanting to
    'enhance' reality for the viewer. Put bluntly the attitude of most
    television and film directors is that less than 1% of their viewers will
    notice such things. Us camera operators just have to go along with it.

    Besides, they have to pay you more if you get into shot. :-)
