I just emailed Qld Transport to try and get some answers. The only
prob I can see is that it obstructs the right side indicator....

I've already got a Givi topbox mount, so I could use that and the
pillion peg to mount the rack 🙂

FJ1200 so would think I have ample power and space to rig up something.
And a gearsack rack which might help. I like the look of the arm coming
out from the pillion footpeg, I'd never thought of that. Have wondered
about doing this for a while because I've got a one car family.

One car family here too. I'm trying to find the source of the photo.
Could be really helpful to me since it's the same model bike. Never
know, the owner might send me some drawings.

Can't see why it shouldn't be legal. As long as the pushbike doesn't
block the motorbike's indicators or brake lights, it is well tied down
so it doesn't move about when you corner or brake, and it doesn't
interfere with your control of the bike, where's the problem?

I have an ally frame that hooks over the pannier rack and the pillion
footpeg and supports a hard golf bag that weighs at least 15kg with all
gear.

Wasn't too hard to make. Comes off when I'm not carrying the hardbag.

The bike does notice the weight all on one side a bit, so I try and
lean the top of it as close to the centreline as I can. The only real
difference is the bike has a bit of a tendency to want to go left.

As long as whatever you carry is obviously well fixed so it's not
wobbling and it's not taking the paint off the cars as you pass them, I
don't think you'll have any problems. All you need to do is be in
control of the motorcycle and be able to get on and off the damn thing!

That's going to be the hardest part of the carrier in the pic. The
rider's legs will be in front of the pushbike so that's OK, but think
about how awkward it's going to be to get off!

That will need practice.

Could you mount the bike more vertically? So the rear wheel's in the
air rather than facing back?

The track with the sliding mounts reminds me of some systems I have seen on roof racks and in ute trays - 4WD shops may be a useful source.

Or go the absolute full pig and get a bike trailer to tow behind the Honda.
There is a mob near you (an hour's ride or so) at Yandina that makes/sells trailers. classicind.com.auclassicind.com.auOpen ↗. Would allow you to tow 2 bikes and carry a pillion. 🙄

I've carried my roady strapped to a rucksack for 30-odd km ..
not ideal but it works.

I want to build a rack, but I was thinking of using a car roofrack
style using up a fair proportion of the pillion seat - I won't be
carrying pillions to bike races. I wanted to carry the bike *above*
the seat, not beside the back wheel. Maybe an issue with crosswinds?
It's only an idea at the moment.

According to Qld Road Regs, I may not have a load protruding more than 30cm behind the rear wheel, and may not have a load protruding any wider than motorbike (and the mirrors don't count in this measurement).
