New 9s Cranks Compatible with 7s setup?

The interior width of the chain is the same for 7/8/9/10 speed so it will work

It works just fine. Sprockets are, to date, backwards-
compatible with setups that have fewer speed than the
current spec.

It works just fine. Sprockets are, to date, backwards-
compatible with setups that have fewer speed than the
current spec.

In my experience, chain choice becomes more important when
you're running a 7-speed system on a 9-speed crankset. I
would stay away from 6/7 speed chains and use something
specifically made for a 7/8 speed setup in such situations.
I've had very good luck with HG91 chains, while IG-series
haven't worked so well.

Hmm.. okay, thanks a lot. There's also somethign to be said
for keeping my original crank and everything and just
replacing the rings. It's nice having an all-stock bike..
especially when it was your first "real" bike.
