First of all apologies if this is not the most appropriate newsgroup for my question ; if anyone can suggest a more appropriate place then please do.
I intend to do a charity fundraising event and have narrowed my options down to two. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with experiences of either or both of these options in order to help me decide which one to go for.
The options are trakking to the peak of Kilimanjaro or trekking to the base camp of Everest.

If you'll only every go to Nepal once, IMHO there are better treks than Everest base camp.

If you'll only every go to Nepal once, IMHO there are better treks than Everest base camp.
If it's for fundraising maybe look at the trip you can do cheapest ;-) Also time available. I've not been to Kilimanjaro, nearest I've got was a package holiday to Tunisia. How about the Annapurna region in Nepal? Lots of choice and very easy to plan and execute treks from a few days up to a few weeks. For example the Annapurna circuit - more scenic than the Everest region by all accounts and goes to a similar altitude IIRC. I very much enjoyed my trekking there.

Well I wouldn't go back to Kenya if you paid me, a godforsaken country, the most corrupt I have ever visited, even the immigration guy at the airport blackmailed me on my way out. "You either help my daughter through school or I take your cases apart which will take so long you will miss your flight!" Lucky I got a pre-printed receipt (!) from him for my charity 'cause a policeman then collared me for trying to bribe an official (obviously also wanted a bit of the action). Goodness knows what will happen to you if the Kenyan officials know you are trying to raise money.
You will get a lot less hassle and a genuine friendly smile and help in Nepal, one of the worlds poorest countries. We loved Nepal and it's people.

Or one of the trekking peaks in Nepal, if you want something sufficiently challenging that people will feel they want to sponsor you for it. Permits for these are easily arranged in Kathmandu. I think the Everest and Annapurna regions are equally spectacular. The weather in the Everest region is generally better.

Since Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania there's no earthly reason to go to Kenya. I had no problems at all with the officials in Tanzania.
