I ride a cycle Ops rollers that I bought off of ebay and they are quite nice, not that loud at all. The best way to ride for the first several times is inbetween a door way so you can catch yourself when you are going off. It takes a couple of trys to get it down and to get use to the balance but after awhile you will get the hang of it. They will improve your pedal stroke and get your balance up to par in the winter time giving a one up when it is time for spring. There is one bad thing is the rollers arent went for power type work like a stationary trainer is. However i found a solution for that. I use a fixie during the winter months to get to class and let me tell you these are valuable to build strength and cadence range. Rollers combined with a fixie will almost cover all the bases.

i have Krietler Challengers with 4 inch rollers with killer headwind fan which are awesome especially if you want to do longer workouts 1.5+ hrs... more resistance that you could ever throw at it... the fan is loud so are not really appropritate for appartment living... could go with the tiny hotdog rollers (lots of resistance without the fan) but they are not that great for longer riders... you want big heavy, high inertia rollers if you're planning on being on them for long periods of time... but i'm a little jealous of those who opted for e-motion rollers they are pretty awesome too and you can actually stand up and sprint full blast on them which would be really cool.
yeah, those e-motion rollers look really cool, but too expensive for me, I have the elite parabolic rollers, they are really nice! Several times they have saved me from falling off the edge (from not paying attention). Overall the rollers are pretty easy to learn to ride, the doorway idea works good, but you just basically have to have some balls and just ride on them. It's just like riding on the road, but you have to be paying attention all the time.
yeah. those e-motion rollers look awesome. but too pricey for a working rasta rebel parent like me.
the parabolics also look good.
then i'm thinking of getting a cheap set just to try them out...
winter's coming so i gotta make a move soon. until then, i'm still on the road and trail. love it.
thanks kids.
