I took advantage of the fine weather yesterday to do a half
century - Leeds, Wetherby, Rufforth, Acomb, York, Selby (via
the cycle way).
Six or seven miles out from Selby I could see a huge cloud
and precipitation and thinking that I'd be skirting it,
pressed on. How wrong I was! It went for me! I could swear
it homed in on me and dumped it's contents. It wasn't
pleasant as I didn't take any waterproofs as there was no
indication of rain according to the local forecasts.
I couldn't face riding home - a further 25 miles in the
deluge so I caught a train back to Leeds. During the 3/4
hour wait the weather picked up and I thought all was well.
Wrong! As the train approached Leeds the sky darkened in a
very familiar way and it started to pour down just in time
for me to get off the train.
Still, it was a good ride and I discovered that the Netto
bike tops go some way to reducing wind chill while riding
sopping wet.
