I don't know where to put this but i wanted to say hello show my old POS bike and ask a few questions so here it be.
The rear rerailer on my old schwinn is shot. i just got this bike out of a scrap heap and im working on fixing it up so far i've put new tires on it, new inner tubes, a new chain, and new break pads. i was hoping the rearderailer (Is that the right word?) could be fixed with some tuning but no such luck so far. anyway i was looking at prices for the part on amazon holy... those things are expensive!
my step-dad said "You'd be better off buying a new bike you can't fix -that- " hehe, a challenge yes.
Now i've been told several times that these old bikes are not worth the effort and to get a new one if im going to get into cycling for real, sorry i love this style of bike its my third of this type and i won't ride anything diffrent i've ridden some new expensive bikes and i prefer my old bike.
i keep it inside because i've had two bikes stolen from my yard in the past. even though i live in a "safe" area out in the country but im moving soon.
any tips on these old bikes? where to look for parts, what to upgrade / change. i would love to put disc breaks on it.
i also need to repaint it, but cosmetics can wait till after full functionality is restored.
Did a Little research and found that the bike was made in Oct. 1978 so its 34 and a bit years old. also can't determine the model for sure.
