Well here's my new Ellsworth Truth, 99% done. The only thing keeping me from taking it for the first ride is that I screwed up and ordered the wrong front derailleur. I accidentally ordered a top swing instead of a bottom swing. Oops! I ordered a new one yesterday that is supposed to be delivered today. I'm hoping to have time for a test ride before the race on Sunday.

Do you have a bike weight with and without the mud?
Without mud it weighs 24.75 pounds with computer. With mud I believe it is safe to say it weighed at least 25 pounds. My shoes weighed another 5 pounds or so. All in all it was not a good day for a race on a new bike.

No, actually is was the best day to race with a new bike. It is like getting the first scratch out of the way on a brand new car. You can now just accept the reality of MTBing (i.e. is can be messy) and get on with enjoying the ride 🙂

As far as the race goes I would have much prefered to have done it the Superlight I tore down to build this bike. It's weird being on a new bike on a day like this. I would have prefered the predictability of the superlight in this case. After spending over two years on a bike you have a pretty good idea of what it is going to do when things start to go wrong. After a few rides I'll get to know the Ellsworth a lot better and I'll start feeling more comfortable on it. Unfortunately these things take a little time. When going down a hill on the edge of being out of control it helps to be on a bike that has earned your trust.

still liking the truth? i'm looking at picking up an '05 frame and picking up the parts over the winter from ebay.
