  1. My gear is getting old. What?
I need to update my bike gear. What I’m wearing on the bike and all the gear. I need to update it. Any info or suggestions? I like tight and sleek.

  2. Why do you need to update it? Is it worn or broken?

  3. Sounds more like he's talking clothing rather than bike parts. Heck, I wear plain basic stuff cause it works.

As far as helmets, I like a nice one. Giro Ionos on sale for $150 or so. To me the helmet is all about comfort. The shorts too. Other than that, I just wear cheap gloves, jerseys and under layers. I have no desire to fit into the race look.

  4. Yeah, updating for fashion or the sake of a look seems like a complete waste of money to me. If it is comfortable and it works leave well enough alone.

  5. Castelli.

  6. Bike parts seriously need some regular maintenance to keep it up and running. Especially if you forget to clean your bike once in a while the dirt will add the wearing even more.

  7. Cleaning and replacing are different matters, but I don't think the OP meant parts anyway.

The OP was talking about both 😉

  9. LOL! I completely missed that. Thanks. 🙂 I think I'm getting cheap in my old age. I never want to replace anything unless I have to lately.

  14. After reading some of the threads on this forum, my I.Q. drops points faster than when I read the 'news' articles / commie brainwashing propaganda on NPR's website.

Yeah, well any connection misconstrued to the OP almost makes me want to close out this account and make a new name.

  17. I don't really know what kind of cycling do you do, but a good helmet is never a bad thing to have. Also since it's winter (I assume it where you are) getting a good set of warm clothes that allow you for some breathing room could also do good for you.

No need to... He-she will dissolve in internet goo pretty soon...
    All trolls do... 😄

  19. Your kit will wear out, so buy a new kit. In doing so only buy inexpensive, less than $20 for jerseys. All jersey, regardless if they cost $15 or $150 are made of 100 percent polyester; and having lived and cycled in 100 degree plus areas of the country I could not tell any difference in the cooling properties of two radically different priced jerseys. However I could tell that a loose fitting jersey is cooler than a tight one but you want tight so get tight.

Instead of spending $100 or so for a jersey take the money you saved from getting a $15 one and spend it on nice shorts in the $80 range, nice shorts will make a huge difference in your riding comfort. Of course you could make the point that a cheap jersey won't last as long, maybe maybe not, but let's say they don't last as long, but you could buy six $15 jerseys for the price of one and those six will far outlast one expensive jersey. I find that the expensive jerseys only last no more than one season longer than the cheaper ones so I wasn't getting 10 times the life out of one over a cheap one to make it worthwhile to spend more money.

Socks, get the cheapest 100% polyester sock you can find because like the jersey you're not going to tell the difference between a $5 sock and a $30 sock.

Shoes, although I doubt that part of the kit is worn but if it is get really nice shoes, again like the shorts if you get cheap shoes you're feet will scream at you in rebellion.

Gloves depends a lot on you, some hands don't like a lot of padding and so a thin cheap non padded gloves work, but some require padding and so they may need a more expensive padded glove. But even with gloves there is no reason to buy $75 gloves when $45 padded ones or $25 unpadded work just fine.

Lastly find everything you buy on sale or closeout, there is no reason to spend say $100 on shorts when they go on sale all the time for between $40 and $60. You can even get $40 to $60 jerseys for $15 to $20 dollars if you shop smart, and of course the same applies to socks and shoes.

LOL Nice thread title, the word 'what' just doesn't belong.
