Had a great 50K ride the yesterday. Legs were really spent by the end of it, but I was proud that I accomplished it. Actually went 52.55 KM in 2:22:49 (riding time), Probably took me more like 2:30 since I had to stop a few times to check my map. I had planned out a route but the map was old and the roads had changed a bit.
Anyway, now that I know I can do the distance, I am going to enter a Bike-A-Thon for Habitat for Humanity, their a group that builds affordable housing for those who can't afford the price of a new house.
Yeah I don't usually bother but I wasn't as familiar with the area and I wanted to try and stay on more rural roads were there would be less traffic.
Worked out OK, but I did basically dump the map after about 20K, it was pretty much useless. When I got to 25K I just turned around and started heading back.
Saw some great scenery on the way. Watched 5 Deer bounding through a farmers field to the woods as I rode up. Nice watching the sunrise too.
I left at 6:30 AM and got back around 9:00 AM. Great start to the day.😄
I used to plan routes on a map, start off following that route, then discover another trail that wasn't even on the map! That lead to other trails and eventually getting lost and discovering more trails as I tried to find my way back again. Alot of trails over here are marked with 'No Cycling' signs because of ramblers complaining of 'trail erosion'. Weird really considering these trails were created by the ramblers big size 12 boots. If you come across these boring old farts, give em' the finger and ride over their toes!!! Rides will easier as you bike more and more. Before long you'll be doing 50mile rides and think nothing of it. Welcome to the nut-house!!!🙂
