Just went out for my first 20mile ride, made it with a time of 1hr 11mins on the button. I did my first 10mile pretty fast for me at 30minutes and change but I had the tail wind ,however when I turned around I had one hell of a head wind I had to push into. The road was very hilly, no real long climbs but a lot of small steap hills. I hit 30mph on one of the decents.

Better get used to that headwind. Once you build up speed you'll find whatever direction you go, it's a headwind. 😄

Congrats on your ride. It makes you feel like superman, huh?
I just did a 60 miler two weeks ago with the DH, a rounder, and it took me a while for that. I crashed at 25 miles and had a brusied hand that hurt a lot. We stopped a few times just to give the hand a break. With stops that ride took 6 hours. But while riding we averaged 14.5 mph. The DH had a bad tummy during the ride (wolfed down a cliff bar at a stop) so neither of us were up to snuff after about mile 25.
We did the LIVESTRONG Challange last weekend. Just the 40 miler. Uphill the first 17 miles. Was definitely at my LT by the time mile 17 came. Thank goodness for the downhill rewards! Literally 10 minutes of just coasting at 40-45mph. What a ride! So, now what's on the books for you?

Awesome to hear! Go for 30 next ride!
Make sure you bring some food with you. If you're gonna be cycling for hours, your body is going to need food. I carry some sort of meal bar or trail mix for energy.

Congrats on your ride! When will you double the distance? 😉
And yes, do get used the wind, which will always be against you on longish rides on the return leg! :p

I totally agree with the never ending head wind. It is always a head wind. It's frustrating at first until you just give in to it. Then you learn really nice compact riding techniques that minimize the head wind effect. Just fight through it and have fun
