Dumster diving at Home Depot and Lowes has been very profitable for a
few people I know. My current Power Washer (Honda 6HP) was a recover.
One spark plug and a new spray wand later I now have a $650 washer for
$55. One lucky DD has collected an entire set of Ryobi powertools.
They ditch them for silly things like frayed wires. I guess it's easier
to ditch them than return them to the manufacturer. I never knew anyone
to do a dive at a LBS. I would think that most of them run on such low
margins they'll make use of every spare screw.

Nice work. My boy can come up with some of the wildest creations from an old
box, miles of tape and what ever from the recycle bin. Santa always gives
him a variety of tape , glue and a pair of scissors in his stocking on
Christmas.

I have tried LBS diving and flat out asking them for junk (parts to build
whacky bikes, doncha know) to no avail. They throw very little away around
here.

Actually, I'm going to run my NRS up to the shop after work, and have
them install a new crankset, bb and tires for me. Considering how much
I spent on those items, we'll see how much they squuuuuuuuuuueeze out
of me for the installation.
