Hi... my name is Thom King. I am the president of Steviva Brands, Inc.
We carry a line of all natural stevia based sugar alternatives.
About 5 years I was at the Natural Health Expo in Los Angeles,
California. I passed by a Canadian business sampling Macroons that they
claimed to be made from a new all natural sweetener made by Johnson and
Johnson called Splenda. I have a bit of a sweet tooth... good thing I
can get all the Stevia I want for free. But, back to my story. I
sampled one of the macaroons. It was the closest thing to sugar I have
ever tasted. I told my partner... that this stuff could end up putting
us out of business.
I ate about 5 of those Splenda Macaroons. A few hours later I was
doubled over with lower intestinal cramps from hell. I had the worst
gas I have ever had... sorry if I am grossing you out... but the truth
must be told. I was making myself sick as well as the passengers I had
with me in my car. I finally had to pull over and let somebody else
drive because I was so ill.
Since that time I have had Splenda a couple more times and it has done
the same thing to me. I know as a fact that is can't be good for you. I
recently had an article published posted on our web site. The article
is entitled "The Irony of Better Living Through Chemistry" Equal
and Splenda Throw Blows Over Advertising Claims - May The Best Chemist
Win. It makes a good read. You can find it at
http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2004/12/emw186251.htm.
One interesting note: Sucralose is actually around 600 times sweeter
than sugar. It must be cut or diluted in order to be palatable. It just
happens that is cut with Maltodextrin. If you are diabetic, suffer from
hypoglycemia, or are on a low carb diet, then you must know that
Maltodextrin will raise insulin levels and basically wipe out any
progress you are attempting to make.
We have been trying to get our product into Curves locations. We
already are in several clubs like it. However, the owners and directors
of Curves insist that Splenda is an all natural product and it cost
less than ours. I don't think this is a battle we are going to win
until somebody at Curves gets really sick.
This is the end of my little rant. If you are interested in Stevia and
the health benefits, I suggest you go to http://www.steviapowder.com.
Thanks!
