  1. I got out of bed, squeezed my lard @rse into some unflattering lycra,
and rode to uni. It's ride to work day today, but I hope they don't
    expect me to work.

    From:- Eight Mile Plains
To:- Uni of Qld, St Lucia
    Distance:- 26.5 km
Terrain:- Logan Road until Stones Corner, which is quite hilly and has
traffic lights at inconvenient places, such as in the valley between two
massive hills, or 2/3 of the way up a big hill. And once you get one
light, you get most of them. So it's chug up the hill, start to cruise
down, stop. Roll to the bottom, stop. Chug up the next hill. At Stones
Corner it's up a back street then onto the SE Fwy Bikeway from the
Buranda busway station, because that's the easiest onramp with no scary
steep hills or sharp corners and it's usually an okay place to cross the
road. The surface is a bit rough, which is why I head in at 0615 and
take the main road. On the way home I suffer the bikeway the entire way
    to avoid peak hour traffic.
Traffic:- There are a few nasty spots, like through Mt Gravatt Central,
but most of it is 3 lanes so with no traffic, no one really complains
about lane changing for me. I hog the lane!
    Bike:- Learsport 8000.
Frequency:- Not since last year. But I'm back now!!!
Time taken:- Usually about 1:10, but today I left a bit earlier and
timed the lights better and it was only 1:03
Highlights:- Saying hello to people at traffic lights and getting a
hello in return. Riding right next to the freeway and driving past the
    cars.
Lowlights:- Cyclists who don't say g'day, drivers that try to run me off
the road even though there's another 2 clear lanes, and of course
    getting to uni.

Did you get your free breakfast from UQSPORT?

I also decided to ride to work today, I've been threatening to get back into
commuting for the last couple of months and "Ride to Work" day gave me the
impetus finally do it today. I just need to do it more often now 🙂

Certainly did. Yoghurt, apple, grapes, cold cross bun, juice, mmmm.
I also stopped on the way in to tell other cyclists about King George
Square breakfast, just in case they didn't know.

We're in March now! It takes a free brekky for you to commute?
    There is no hope.. :P

Anyone else go to the Bike Week brekky in King George Square? Quite a good turn out, haven't seen that many bikes on my commute since ummm last year!

I liked the quote from the lady who won the flatbar road bike when asked "So where is this bike going to go?" Answer, "Under my bum!"

Ah, so you're like me. Where "papers" is defined as USENET. And
    programming is defined similarly.

Went home at 2:00am lastnight, because I was actually, shock horror,
doing some work and was in one of my semi-productive moods.

  9. Yep, I was at KGS as well hooking into my free brekky!! Very excited by
the huge turnout - great to see so many cyclists in one spot. If that
didn't send a message to the Transport Minister (who was there and rode
in as well), then nothing will...

LotteBum should have won the prize for longest commute, though. The guy
who got it only rode 24km, but I know LotteBum's is 35km each way!!
Sadly, she wasn't there to claim...

Tamyka - we must nearly cross paths on the commute. I join Logan Rd at
Mt Gravatt Central just after 6:30am, then follow your route into the
CBD. If a pretty blonde young thing blows past me on a Learsport, then
I'll be sure to yell out hi!!

Still get nervous on the commute though... That set of traffic lights
in the hollow between two hills at Holland Park (next to the antique
furniture shop) is where I got t-boned by an 86-year old in a Commodore
(she saw me coming, but thought I would stop?!?!). I still get the
white knuckle grip on the brakes as I come down to that
    intersection...!!

    See you on the road,

Yeah, I know heaps of people who commute further than 24 km.

Well you can do that, but it won't be me because I'm a brunette! But you
should know that. My other bike is a silver bullet with red extra fast
tyres. Wait did I tell you my learsport was yellow? How did you know it
    wasn't the red one...

I know the section you mean, it's pretty scary. I was lucky today as it
was red as I was coming down the hill, so I kept it slow and it turned
green when I was still a fair bit short of the lights, so I didn't have
to stop. Hate stopping there, it hurts!

*laughing* well it WAS the lard @rse ride, and I WAS getting left
behind by you & LotteBum... Hair colour of my co-riders was somewhat
blurred through the stinging sweat in the eyes!! LotteBum rode right
past me the other morning, and I didn't even recognise her (although I
    was doing my full-on, no-eye-contact, taking-myself-way-too-seriously
    riding pace)

I think you were riding a Felt on the SLART ride?? Or was that Lotte??

Geez, I think I'd better lie down for an afternoon Nanna-nap before I
    totally lose it..

I think I helped sell a bike at the LBS a few days ago. A woman was
buying a bike for her husband, and they didn't have the black one he
was after; it was only available in red. She said "but he hates
red!". So I told her "but they go faster". I think she expressed
interest in buying it then, but I left, so don't know 🙂

And I didn't even get a jelly bean as thanks 🙁
