  1. Cycling down Nepean approaching North Rd around about 07:50, about 3/4 of a meter from the kerband a lorry pulls level with me, unleashes a torrent of abuse and then literally forces me off the road.

I must be mad 'cause I didn't get that ol rush of blood to the head thing. Just carried on down the side walk for a hundered meters or so and pulled up at the straight ahead lane. The lorry proceeded in to the left filter lane. All I did was turn, smile hugely, and wave.

Had I a notebook I'd have done the same then pointedly bring out notebook and pen and proceed to take details down. Next time!

If you carry a mobile phone, just hold it up as if you're taking a
photograph. It doesn't matter if your phone doesn't have a camera in it,
the driver will have that little element of doubt in their mind as to what
you're going to do with the evidence 🙂

I did that recently. to a driver blabbing on the mobile. when i mimmicked him on the phone he gave me the finger and kept talking. So I did as you suggest and he hung up damn quick

spotted from tram this morning woman talking 'AT' her mobbie, holding it in her jand just below window ledge of car so you couldnt see she was 'on the phone' . didnt seem to have 'hands free' wires so buggered if i know how she heard the other person...

I've seen a few of these at work recently. The microphone can pickup
from a couple of feet away, and the speaker is similarly strong (hardly
surprising when you onsider how loud some of thos edamned ring tones are
    now)

Blue-tooth ear-piece, includes the microphone. Leave the phone on your belt
and talk away. My son in Melbourne has a hands-free installation in his work
vehicle. It's wired into the radio with a mike on the sun shade. When the
phone rings it automatically shuts off the radio and uses the radio speakers
    for received sound.

That could be bad if you were singing along with your radio.

Well, if you sing like me.

My phone has a speaker in it so it's kind of built-in hands free.

But I don't use the phone in the car at all.

I am convinced that talking on the phone *at all* (or for that matter,
talk requiring thought, to a passenger) reduces your concentration on
    what you are meant to be doing - watching small details on the road;
niggling details such as bicycle riders. Most drivers I see zone out
of a conversation when the road gets hairy - I'm glad most people
choose to zone out of the conversation instead of not concentrating on
the road, but there are some people who do the latter. It is these
that you want to ban mobile (including handsfree) use in a car for.

I don't think that hands free are much better than hand held. At
least you have another hand on the wheel, but that's all. [censored]
will still even punch a number into their handsfree instead of looking
    at the road.

    Euan,

About two months ago I had an almost exact same incident with a truck in
exactly the same place in Nepean Highway. Truck driving right up against the
kerb in front of me every time the traffic banked up. At one stage after I
got ahead of him, as he passed a passenger yells out "get on the f'ng bike
track!", then the truck tries to squeeze me off the road. I remembered the
rego, but two days later had a serious fall on a gravel coutry road, and
that sort of took my mind off things for many weeks. the truck's rego
started with PKL (I have the rest of it). The truck was carrying some kind
of small dozer. Can you recall any details about that truck? If it's the
same bugger then I will certainly send my letter to both the police and
    Vicroads.

    Henry.

  10. I'm pretty sure it has been proven that you are just as likely to have an
accient using hands-free or holding the phone while driving (see
    http://www.driveandstayalive.com/articles%20and%20topics/crash%20causation/cell-phone-dangers.htm).
That's why I'm a little bemused that only hand-helds are illegal while
    driving!
