Hello all.
I've just been the victim of attempted murder. Motorist pulls
dangerously close alongside, shouts abuse, I ignore him. He pulls
closer, my tyres are intermittently scuffing the kerb and I'm leaning
against his van. He yanks further left.
Witness coming the other way flags him down, tells him he knocked me
off but the driver zoomed off. Witness coming other way had number
plate and description. Driver behind murderous has description of
vehicle and full description of what happened. I actually rolled over
enough while in the road to get number plate and phone it in to 999
while the adrenaline was still high enough that I wasn't screaming.
Police attend. Ambulance attend. I spend 4 hours in A&E.
Police have phoned home - number plate is validly registered to a
vehicle matching that description ... at a non-existent address.
Police say that's not supposed to happen and probably not much they
can do.
[censored].
I am missing assorted bits of flesh from both hands, moderate patches
of skin from right thigh and right forearm, my right thumb is about
30% larger diameter than it should be and my right shoulder hurts like
f***. Assorted other aches and pains and various interesting colours
developing and oozing, but A&E say probably all superficial - go back
if anything is still really painful in three days.
I have no injuries at all from the neck up. Anyone want to guess what
the only comment about my riding style or equipment any medical staff
person made was? Three of the four staff I had prolonged contact with
asked the same thing. By the time I got to the doctor I (politely)
offered to debate the topic and pointed out I was uninjured from the
neck up, but she declined the opportunity.
The ambulance men cut my best cycling shorts _and_ my irreplaceable
New Zealand bungey-jumping T-shirt off me. (To be fair, at that stage
I was swearing at anyone that got too close to my arm, and there was
ooze soaking through my shorts so they had not much option.)
Oh, and one of the witnesses offered to look after my bike, but the
ambulance took the piece of paper with his name and address off me and
it's got lost.
regards, Ian SMith
