  1. For those who care, Abby beat me on Saturday. I managed to stay with the pack for not quite one lap (and that's only because Paul was trying to haul me along), then proceeded to get lapped approximately 5 times.

Each time the bunch passed me, I heard a female voice say "Jump in Lotte!" or "Hey scrubber". Not quite sure who it was....

Hey Abby, seeing as I now owe you lunch, you wanna come to Maccas with me?

gives you more incentive to train a bit and beat them next time =D

while "bloody pulp" is an option, i'd suggest the crossing the line ahead of them instead 😉

Lotte averaged over 30 km/h on her own though.

  4. Had a good ride, stayed up the front for most of it. As the Prime drew
near I decided I was too far back and decided to sprint up the outside
on the back straight. Got up near the front and the boys didn't want me
up there, but they were going pretty slow so I just blew straight past
them. I looked back and they didn't seem to care, so I upped the speed a
bit and kept going. Eventually one of them decided he should catch me
and dragged the whole bloody bunch with him, so I gave up and slowed
down a bit; but when they caught me, I got left out the front. Knew what
to do this time and gave them the flick coming out of the back corner
and was back in sixth wheel by the time we reached the next corner. So
AB missed the whole lot and probably doesn't believe me. But it was
soooooo much fun (in a "fsck this is really stupid" kind of way), I
think I will do something like that every race from now on.

Anyway the next half a lap was me hanging on for dear life as I had
convinced the boys it was a good idea to pick up the speed again and my
    legs
were a bit sore and protesting, but a minute later I was fine again.
    FEEL THE BURN, BABY!

There were a lot of poor form riders in the bunch... a few heroes, lots
of braking on the corners (I know... why are we not pedalling, people?)
and of course a little [censored] who cut in on a corner and told me to hold
my line... I asked her, "What, do you want me to ride on the grass?"

Abby is now a proven Cat 2 rider - yep, for the first time, he
didn't drop a lap! I am taking some of the credit for this, as it
conveniently happened only a short while after I gave him a lesson on
pedalling more efficiently. Now I'm scared he'll start beating me! Oh
well, [censored] happens. Lotte got dropped early but worked hard the entire
time. She didn't feel she needed bunch experience as she used to race
all the time, so she just wanted to get a good session out of it.
Paulie (the other one, Lotte's boy) rode really well but didn't bother
with the final sprint because he was getting squished between some
trihard sprinters that were nowhere near the front anyway.

I saw there were three of the little nasty girls in front of me so got
out of the saddle to sprint but felt like I was going to fall off, so I
sat again, it always looks funny when you pedal hard in the saddle
during a sprint, my mate came third the other week doing that. I didn't
understand what the problem was until I started to head home and saw
that I'd ripped my right shoe apart again. I'm sending the shoes back!
    Didn't feature Newnham Rd with
only one shoe, so I got Abby to drive me from his place.

Sunday I had all sorts of dramas swapping the pedals on my bike because
the Miche pedals need a proper pedal wrench (spanner worked fine on the
Shimanos) and struggled to find somewhere that was open on a Sunday and
actually sold the damn things. "You sell pedals?" "Yep." "But not pedal
wrenches?" "Nope." "Well don't you think people would like to be able to
put their pedals on their bike?"

Lotte dragged me out on the MTB and it was heaps of fun but I fell off.
I rode over heaps more scary [censored] than normal and then fell off on a
familiar corner that I've nailed every time. Got some nice big sore
    spots now.

  5. I remember the breakaway...

I was working my way up, said g'day as I passed you, and you generously
let me in ahead of you. Then you took off dwon the outside.

"Wow, she's strong" I thought. "Must be keeping out of trouble with the
front guys". Then you PASSED the front guys, and kept going?!?!

I'm trying to keep one eye on the wheel in front of me, and one eye on
you way out ahead trying to see if you were going the solo breakaway.
While you obviously didn't stay away, it LOOKED pretty [censored]-hot, and at
least it might get the fellas to take you a bit more seriously
    *laughing*

Now just need to do something about those psycho Hitachi Racing girls.
They were, ummm, interesting to ride with in the pack...

Oh, and Lotte - you rock dude. I would've put money on you outlasting
me on Saturday, so I was pretty surprised at the "Tour de Fat" result.
I still reckon you'd kick my [censored] in a one-on-one, maybe I was just
able to shelter in the pack better or something...??

Abby (still grinning about finishing Cat 2)

Yeah, as soon as I got out there, I thought, "uh oh, BAD idea, very BAD
idea..." but it was so fun! But a short while later I was looking over
my shoulder, thinking, "come on guys, all I wanted to do was get you to
hurry up..." hehehe they'll be watching out for the chick in uglies next
week! I was thinking of either (1) doing an AB and heading off the front
on lap 2, if anyone's keen to go with me, Mick? Paulie? Abby? or maybe
    (2) starting a breakaway with about 5 minutes to go, just to stir things
up or maybe even (3) starting a breakaway immediately off the back of
the Prime, eh? eh? Who's with me?!!!

(Lotte, no dirty comments about "doing an AB", okay? Yeah, I know how
    your mind works...)

Yeah... next time they steer at me, I'm moving up, blocking, and putting

Lotte rocks. You know what it's like when that gap appears... next week

Now I remember your break. I think that was relatively early on
wasn't it. You went by pretty damn fast on the outside on the back
straight. I remember thinking "oh here goes, now the pace gets whipped
up and I get spat out the back".

I had one of those oh-oh-what-they-hell-am-I-doing-on-the-front
moments. 3 kids in maroon attacked along the back straight and I jumped
out with some guys giving chase, who promptly rolled off. What the?
I got swallowed up just before the turn into the start/finish straight
    though.
    Thankfully.

I'd be up for trying a break. I reckon with a few people, just after the
    prime
would be worth a shot. Long time to stay out but it'd be fun to try.
I'll be OS for the next 3 weeks though.
3 weeks no training - first week back - ouch!

hoping to get some people moving and open a gap... somewhere. Anywhere

Hey who has been talking to you about my race plan ????

Actually I was thinking of going 2 laps from the finish so to keep em all honest to the finish.

At least if we went off straight after the prime and streched them for a bit then we would probably have a bit of time to recover (assuming they catch us after a few mins) and then go again near the end to stir them up again.

Id rather get to the end with nothing left in the tank than having cruised and being able to sprint.

The sprinter might win, but they are never going to get much better...

Hey, I'll work with you in that... maybe we should do up a hat of random
race plans and draw one each week?

    That's undoubtedly true.

But, Paulie and I are speaking about specific heroes in the bunch, etc,
and the guys who never do any work, but miraculously appear at the
sprint. Good for them if they've got time to do a few hundred km during
the week to get fit. I don't.

I ride 16km of hills to get to the race, race hard, then do 16km of
hills to get home (unless my shoe breaks and then I only do 8km home). I
get fitter and stronger every week. And every week -they- just sit back,
have a go at the sprint, and come 5th.

Really......I know I could do alot more work at the front of Cat 2 but the sitting in the bunch really isn't working me too hard at the moment. Personally I would rather be hanging on in Cat 1 than being up the front of Cat 2. Might have to aim to be there in a couple of months or so. In the mean time have to improve my fitness and bunch riding
