multi-day riding in CO (DIY RTR)?

I recently got a book called "Road Biking Colorado" by
Michael Seeberg. Seems pretty good, the ride in it that I am
familiar with are accurate and it would be easy to put
together several rides into a loop.

Google on this topic, it was discussed in some detail about
a month ago.

We're pretty open! We'll probably fly into DIA, and then
somehow get to the ride start. Our criteria is:
1) not getting crushed by large vehicles,
2) nice scenery, hopefully nice destination towns,
3) get some good miles and climbing in.

My first thought is that 5 days is pretty short. Getting to
somewhere from DIA could take one day, and getting back
another. That would leave you with three days of riding.
And if you're not acclimated, those could be some pretty
rough days.

Will you rent a car so you can drive to a good spot to do a
loop? That seems like the best way to maximize your 5 days.

Summit county would be a good place to do that (drive to
Dillon/Frisco/Breckenridge and then do a three or four
day loop).

Are you ready for some strenuous climbing and miles or do
you prefer something a little easier?

I suppose that you could take an RTD bus from DIA to
Boulder, then another from Boulder to Nederland (17 miles up
and west) and be on the Peak to Peak highway. Both of those
buses will take gear (bikes) in an enclosed undercarriage -
bikes laying on their sides - boxed or not. Then you could
head to Estes Park (or south to Idaho Springs. I don't know
much about any other regional public transportation (except
that I would *never* depend on Amtrak if on a schedule.
Amtrak does go from Denver to Glenwood Springs.)

Colorado is splendid for biking, we cycled there last year
and I can honestly say that we have rarely had so much
fun. However, five days is short, if you are flying in and
out of Denver. On the other hand if you can only spare
five days you might be able to afford to fly right into
Aspen or Crested Butte. Then, bike out via Summit County.

Salida and Durango. But there is no way you can do it all.
