    Hi,

    I ride a KTM Ultra Ride MTB (all LX equip.) that is soon to receive a set of
    Shimano XT disc brakes. My not so local bike shop tells me that now that I
    have disc brakes my Suntour AXON D-RL spring/oil 100mm travel fork will not
    cut it. I weigh well in excess of 200 pounds, and combined with a decent
    disk braking only one leg of the fork, I was told that the fork will not
    live very long.

    Therefore I am looking for a budget solution for a fork. It needs to have
    100mm of travel I am guessing because of the frame geometry, it must be
    spring/oil, and NOT air, and the stanchion tubes must be of 32mm diameter.
    The LBS suggested one Rock Shock fork, model 3xx, I forgot which with the
    price of 290 Euro - about as high as I can go - even though 200 would be
    much better. It is also important to know that with my weight, I only ride
    normal XC, bumpy dirt roads and good single track. I am not interested in
    jumping and extreme DH! I have never come even close to bottoming my AXON
    even though people consider it a soft fork, and I keep it at the softest
    setting?!

    Marzocchi Dirt Jam Pro is about E220, has the 100mm travel and 32mm
    stanchions (CroMo at that) you want but it's coil one side and air the
    other. I wouldn't worry about the air, my MXC keeps its air pressure
    forever, you'll probably only need about 2 bar for your weight and
    riding style.

    hey, if he wants it he can have it. He doesn't say how far past 200lb
    he's gone, so flex under braking may be an issue with a skinny fork.

    It's not that I insist, but my LBS told me that those forks tend to be more
    rigid - that's all. And yes, the main problem is stopping something very
    heavy by baking only one side of the wheel/fork. They are affraid the AXON
    will flex too much. My bike should be ready on Friday so I will see, but
    somehow I have the feeling that the budget Suntour AXON was not meant for me
    🙂

    Some people suggest RS Reba? Any thoughts on that one?

    I know it has a good reputation as a cross country fork for bigger riders.
