    This weekend is the Mt washington bicycle race in NH? It's 7.5 miles 4,600 foot climb to 6,188ft
    more difficult than the alpe D' Huez in the tour de France... I will be riding up there Saturday
    morning...

    So... do they ride 120 hilly miles before starting up the hill?? Granted, it's steeper but you can
    hardly compare the two.

    How many miles do you ride before you ascend Mt. Washington? To compare with Alpe D'Huez I'm sure
    there must be an equivalent distance you ride before getting to the base. Good luck!!!

    I wonder if the racers in this event also ride over 100 miles before getting to the bottom fo the
    climb. No? Then big deal. I can ride 7.5 miles and climb 4000 feet too...on my singlespeed.

    Actually you just start at the base, and climb the auto road to the top of Mt. Washington. It's a
    hard climb, but it's all over in an hour or so, or more for mere mortals. It's steep, it's long, and
    most of it is not paved (at least as far as I can remember), and the elevation at the top is 6288,
    not 6188 as previously mentioned. I've climbed it in the summer and winter and skied it in the
    Spring. It's a hard mountain. Enjoy. Now if they had a road race that ended on the top of the
    mountain, that would be something, because there are some other long climbs around there like from
    Gorham NH to Pinkham Notch where the base of the mountain is, long climb. You could probably run a
    race from North Conway to the Mt. Washington Auto Road, and it would be a leg ripper.

    Have fun! As someone who has done the running race I couldn't imagine taking a bike up it. More
    credit to you.

    I'll keep my fingers crossed for good weather, like that will do any good.

    You do your training by having approximately 150 professionals do the Tour!! Next week, let us know
    how you did on Mnt. Washington.

    One of my friends works for me part time in the offseason. He lives on less than $5k/year. In the
    winter, he sleeps in another friend of ours' garage. When the season starts, he's off to Belgium.

    Will he make it? I don't know. If he does, it will be due to his willpower and love for the sport.

    I don't have that sort of desire. That's why I suck.

    If only everyone could be honest with themselves.

    5k, that's seems hard considering even the basics beside food. And of course little things that pop
    up that keep taking your money away. Also a big factor is not only how much you eat but how wisely
    your money is spent on food. I have done 6k a year ridng fulltime years ago. Really tight on food
    and the bills but I had fun doing it. Nicole Freedman lived out of her van when racing, for a while
    it was parked in a friends yard. I wonder how much she was living on at the time. I know at the time
    I didn't care about money, I just wanted to ride.
