I already posted the link for the race-day story (downhill
running / cross-training thread), but I'll post it again
with a bunch of others, since people seem to be interested.
We get a media blitz for several days before hand. The
course record that was almost broken (within 15 sec) dates
back to 1981 and no one's come close in a loooong time.

I was hoping the same. IIRC, last year she had posted
some pics.

It's only 1.5 mile up and 1.5 mile down. But the course
record is something like 43 minutes.

🙂 It looks like they have a .doc file on the home page now

it's Alaska. Just because you can follow online results of
ultras (that might be a day or two behind because of storms
and nobody really knows where anybody is), doesn't mean
they're gonna get 5k results posted same day. Keep in mind,
those folks are partying big time in Seward over the 4th.
The town quadruples in size for the race and other
festivities. Betcha that beats Boston and NYC 😉

But I haven't heard what the auction prices were for the
last few slots. In the past, the mens' have gone for up to
$800. People just *really* wanna run this thing.

Geez, they must suck. I can run a 5K in under 42 minutes,
and that's 3.1 miles!

There's a flat stretch in town, that's about 1/2 mile, so it
looks like it's actually 1 mile up with about 3000 ft up,
then corresponding down, so a total of about 3 miles rt.

Looks like 260 vs 280 for the big kids - even better for you
😉 but they are separate races. I don't know how many
actually started. The women's race didn't used to fill until
about 10 yr ago, iirc. Both men and women (separate races)
are usually capped at 300, with priority going to past
finishers (apply by Feb or March), then remaining slots
filled by lottery in March (no, it's not the fastest
internet connection race like some ultras). This year they
had over 300 returning men apply, so extended cap to 350
this year and instituted a 5-min headstart for 50 elite
folks (I'm assuming times are adjusted).

You could do this as warmup for Resurrection Pass 50/100,
which had more women finishers than men last year (but there
was something weird about last year's race, but I don't know
what, other than heat - but male/female is usually close
each year).

The funny thing about Mount Marathon is, I typically know
more finishers of this race than any other race that I see
results of (just looking to see who I know that runs but
didn't know they did). One of the ladies from our xt class
is in top 10 this year (also top 10 women in WMRT citizens'
race), just behind one of the Olympians, and her mother (a
little younger than myself) finished about mid-pack. Nope,
I'm still looking at races with more horizontal than
vertical 😉 and not the madhouse that that is.
