shot down in the last couple weeks (one yesterday). Another offer is
going in today. Upshot, closing date will no longer be mid July, so an
AM-B CO ride is a possibility. Major downside is that Susie starts her
new job July 31, and we might be moving right about then :-ppp

Where will you be moving to? And it looks like Craig has a July 9th

Louisville (just east of Boulder). My wife will be working at a new
hospital in the area. Great move for her, schools are tons better, I
can find meaningful employment (I did molecular bio research before I
did the full time dad thing), no out-the-door mountain biking though.
Thinking about it, I may be getting the short end of the stick...

Anyhoo, Crested Butte/Gunrack area sounds good to me. I haven't ridden
there in years.

I've had commutes up to 17.5 miles (28km) one way, and loved it. I
always figure 10 miles is kind of the minimum to make it really
worthwhile, and 20 is the high end (since it'll start eating up a lot
of your day). Of course, if you're humping up and down mountains on
the way to/from work, you'll have to adjust accordingly.

The other thing to think about - you want to live to the east of your
place of work, so you have the sun at your back both ways (assuming
you work a normal day job, that is).

The other thing to think about - if you're riding more than a few
miles a day, you'll want a purpose-built bike for the job. It could
still be a MTB (or not...) but should have tires and gearing
appropriate for the road. And a rack.

That is a brisk pace isn't it? 20 mph down flat wind-less road on a
road bike is no big thing for a fit rider, but in town on a mountain bike...
