I mounted my new 2006 Mirage 9 speed Ergos on my Cinelli bars. *HOWEVER* they are both canted to the outside portion of the bars. When you look at the handlebars from straight ahead the brake lever/ shifter is on the outside the bar. When I squeeze the lever it lands on the outside of the bar rather than travelling towards the center of the bar - the forward vertical part of the drops hook. My 2001 Mirage Ergos did not do this when I had them on these very same bars. Looking from the front of t he bike towards the bars the brake levers alligned perfectly with the vertical part of the hook of the bars as did the aero levers I was using temporarilly whilst waiting for the new Ergos to arrive.
Can any one suggest why the lever portions of the Ergos is not alligning with the vertical portion of the bars like they should and are canted to the outside? is this a new design feature? I do not like it.

Move them down the handlebar. The bend of older Cinelli has always been such that ERGO cant outwards. OR grind a wee bit of lever body away on the upper inside portion, where the brake cable housing goes in, to allow the levers to be aligned.

Hi and thanks Peter.
Funny thing is that the the 2001 Mirage did not seem to be canted like these are. I think I'll just get new bars though rather than moving the levers down to where it would be uncomfortable to use them. Besides which the ends of the levers will be below the bar if I do that. I'll take a lever with me to be sure it fits without canting.

Hello again Peter.
Tomorrow if I can not get a pair of used non-Cinelli bars I may consider doing what you suggest and grind the bodies. However would this not void the warranty on these Ergos? They are brand new.

Tilt the bars up so the ramps are closer to level. I briefly had 9sp round-top Veloce Ergos on a Cinelli 64 bar. Not a good match. When I tilted the bars up enough, the hooks were like 45 degrees from the ground.
I got some Nitto Noodles, and was amazed how much more I liked the bend of them, such that the tops of the levers extend straight from the ramps, which are almost parallel to the ground. I can put my hands anywhere along the ramps, and they don't slide down at all.

Hey there Peter!
I woke up at 2:50 EST and remembered I had some other photos of that bike that I had taken to post on Flickr. So I checked the album I had them in. The bars are the Cinelli ones that are on the bike now. one image is looking at the Ergos on the bike and was taken from 12 0'clock low. And in that image the Ergos are canted outward!
I can not believe I rode that bicycle for about 5 years and did not notice that the Ergos were canted outward on it! I guess that the canting does not make much difference when I am braking. When i noticed the canted Ergo body on the bike when I was setting it up a few days ago my concern was the bike falling over and striking on the outermost part of the Ergo which would be the brake/shifter levers assembly. I may still get another bar later to match the bar on my Sport Racing Miele. That way the placement of the Ergos would be in the same vertical plane on both bikes.
I still can not believe that I did not notice the canted Ergo bodies years ago. (Shakes his head in wonder)
Once again I must thank this group's denizens for their timely and helpful advice.

I doubt it would do anything to the warranty altho I have never warrantied a Campag lever, just repaired it locally if the infamous EC- RE-111 breaks.

I got a Modolo E-2091 Anatomic bar, that is in pristine condition, at the re-cycle shop for $2.00. I already had a nice stem they would fit. The Ergos fit the Modolo bar just fine. I'll take the bike out for a nice long ride tomorrow.
Now what do I do with a pair of old slightly scuffed Cinelli bars? VBG

Hi there.
To end this saga. i was able to get the Cinelli Bars onto my Radical adjustable quill stem which is on my mountain bike. I mounted my Exage levers and my Ultegra 8 speed bar ends onto the bars and that bike is now set to go too.
Incidentaly and perhaps some thing for you to be aware of, the clamps on the 2006 Mirage 9 speed levers were so small a diameter that the allen head bolt came off the clamps as I loosened them to move the levers up from the drops when installing them. I guess you need to specify a larger than 26 mm clamp when ordering these levers if you are going to use them on a Cinelli or other larger diameter bar.

Stem clamp area may vary between Cinelli and others, but the brake lever clamps are standardized at 24mm. Campy clamps have been tight on every bar I've put them on.
