Mounting a light to a flat carbo-bar?

This solution will have you hunting around in the deep dark crevices of your
local bike shop, but here goes.

Quite a while back Cat Eye made a head light and tail light that had a mount
that consisted of a strip of webbing and a metal clamp, with a rubber foot
that fit under the light housing. The lights themselves were abysmal, but
the mount was good.

If you can find one of these you'll likely be able to adapt it to a current
Cat Eye housing (I use it with the HL 500) and will probably find that it
will work with our carbon bars.

I'll try to find a picture of the old light on the web, but like I said,
this was an old product.

If you look at this light you'll get the idea of the type of mount I'm
talking about. This is very similar to what I use, just 15 years newer.
Might this light work on your bars?

I think your idea is just right - and I too had a Cateye light to fix with
at strap over the stem way back. Now I have sent at mail and recommended
the Cateye development department to use the strap solution on their
standard light holders, so lets see how fast they work.
I'll start looking in the junk-boxes of the local bike shops.

My english isn't quite good enough. But you gave me an idea! 1. I mount the
Cateye light to a flat energy bar, which I have made round in the middle -
2. I tie the flat ends to the flat carbon handlebar. 3. And when the
daylight comes, I will take out the light and eat the energy bar. ;-)

Try the Minoura Swing Grip SG3. It's a variation on Minoura's Space Bars
which can mount on the stem rather than on the bars, neatly avoiding your
problem altogether:

The Cateye Opticube 3-LED light has the most versatile strap-type
mounting I have ever seen. It may not be exactly the light you want,
but it will fit on your bars.

When I mentioned the Cateye Opticube in my previous post, I meant the
EL400 model. The other "Opticube" models appear to use ordinary
handlebar clamp bands.
